The Manager, International Business Development is responsible for the development and implementation of Transnational Education (TNE) growth strategy and business development in designated international markets. The role will lead the creation of new TNE opportunities for Deakin University in relevant international markets from opportunity identification to delivery of TNE projects. This position sits within the Transnational Education and Partnerships portfolio and works collaboratively within Deakin International as well as with Faculties, Deakin Research, Advancements, Quality and Compliance, DUELI, Marketing and Communications, and Deakin Abroad.As a Manager you will:

  • Lead the business development of transnational education in designated international markets, engage with internal stakeholders to understand their needs and priorities, and undertake comprehensive market research, including analysis of in-country operation environment, competitors, and brand positioning for business opportunity identification and business development.
  • Conduct due diligence, risk assessment and feasibility of new opportunities that result in commercial and reputational outcomes for the University.
  • Develop and manage business case proposals that include strategic, academic, financial and other elements to create evidenced-based and coherent arguments for investment in new opportunities offshore and obtain approval following the University’s approvals processes.
  • Build and manage strong relationships with the University’s internal stakeholders including sponsoring faculties of relevant transnational education projects and external stakeholders to ensure collaboration for the success of the project within specified timeframes and budgets.
  • Manage TNE projects, set key project objectives and ensure the projects deliver desired outcomes, manage and mitigate risks, conduct regular project monitoring, reporting and evaluation.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications, or progress towards a postgraduate qualification, and relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience in developing TNE opportunities, successfully negotiating and managing TNE partnerships, preferably in a university environment.
  • Track record of successful TNE business cases and delivery in international education markets.
  • Demonstrated good understanding of Recognition of Prior Learning processes.
  • Proven market research and analysis experience to produce insights and evidence-based advice that can be translated into actionable items and plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong productive relationships with internal and external partners/customers.
  • Proven understanding of political, social and economic landscapes as they relate to tertiary education in Australia and international markets.
