The Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) is an independent government agency which, in partnership with Basin governments, manages the Murray–Darling Basin’s water resources in the national interest. With the enactment of the Water Act 2007, the MDBA was established as an independent expertise-based statutory agency.
The MDBA aims to achieve a healthy working Basin for the benefit of all Australians. The Murray–Darling Basin contains a rich diversity of natural environments that are unique in Australia and the world. The Basin is also crucial to Australia’s economy and home to 2.3 million Australians, including people from over 50 First Nations. The Position
The River Management Portfolio, of the Murray—Darling Basin Authority, is seeking an EL2 Director to lead the MDBA’s role to coordinate the Enhanced Environmental Water Delivery (EEWD) project on behalf of the proponent states (Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia).
As Director of the EEWD Coordination team, you will lead a small team to support the strategic management of the project and the input of other MDBA technical teams and delivery partners across the Basin state and Commonwealth agencies involved in the project (about 40 positions across agencies).

Your key responsibilities in this role are to:
- Engage with a range of partners (state and Commonwealth agencies) to deliver a significant change management project that enhances environmental flow outcomes.
- Lead collaboration across MDBA technical teams including briefing senior executives on high-level analyses of issues, improvement recommendations, and identifying and mitigating risks.
- Lead whole-of-project management, including sequencing and tracking of deliverables, strategic risk management, monitoring and evaluation and budget management.
- Facilitate governance and secretariat for the project Steering Committee and Working Group.
- Lead communication, reporting, financial management and administration of the project.
- Develop the implementation plan and facilitate gateway processes for staged project delivery.
- Represent the MDBA at stakeholder meetings and forums.
- Technical lead for work on the legal mandate to deliver overbank environmental flows or other technical consultancies.
