Administrates and oversees all primary prevention-based resources, programs, facilities, and policies related to sleep science, the optimization of recovery and adaptation, and general health and wellness education. Provides leadership, support, and advocacy for capabilities and strategic partnerships that support all domains and foundational building blocks of Marine Corps Total Fitness. Performs work that is varied and generally administrative and/or research-oriented with analysis. Provides support to the highest levels of executive leadership across the Marine Corps to Performance and Sleep Health Educatorsat 19 Marine Corps Installations and Reserve Units.TRAINING AND EDUCATIONDevelops and promotes educational content and skill building opportunities in the areas of sleep science, the optimization of recovery and adaptation, pregnancy and postpartum training, and general health and wellness education. Creates, plans, and updates learning objectives and curriculum. Implements promotional and educational campaigns that utilize primary collaborative and skill-based training methods that maximize the use of interactive training methods.PERFORMANCE PROGRAMS AND POLICYDevelops organizational policy and procedures for the Marine Corps Semper Fit and Warrior Athlete and Resilience (WARR) programs. The incumbent coordinates, develops, and collaborates with a diverse range of subject matters experts from government agencies, specialized services, industry leaders, and healthcare providers to support Marine Corps installations. Responsible for making routine decisions and judgment calls and may assist or make recommendations regarding complex or impactful decisions. Develops and designs promotional and campaign materials based upon the dimensions of Warrior Athlete Readiness and Resilience (WARR). Works with other program specialists’ guidance on the integrated delivery of behavior change concepts, unit and community education, and implementation of other services such as biometric assessments, VO2 Max testing, body fat analysis, and other up to date technological resources. Will provide secondary support for the development programs and requirements for recovery and reconditioning, nutrition education and skill building capabilities delivered to Marines and family members. Specific components include those who require support related to body composition, pre-pregnant and post-partum training reconditioning programs post injury or limited and light duty. Supports and implements Department of Defense Instruction 1010.10. Health Promotion and Disease Prevention requirements that include Sleep, Tobacco-free living, Preventing drug abuse and excessive alcohol use, Healthy eating, Active living, Injury and violence free living, Reproductive and sexual health, Mental and emotional wellbeing. Will perform administrative work to include but not limited to familiarization and developmental support of Warrior Athlete Readiness and Resilience Centers.SYSTEMS DYNAMICS AND ANALYSISCollaborates with a diverse network of primary prevention and intervention providers such as Navy Medicine Health Protection Command, The Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, The Uniformed Services University, Consortium for Health and Military Performance, the Dietitian and Food Sciences Director within MFS, and other agencies, and installation Semper fit Performance Education Coordinators and Program Managers. Incumbent will also participate in the working groups with the Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium, and other Department of Defense Agencies who optimize health, sleep, and performance of military personnel. Establishes interconnectedness and synthesis implementing inter-disciplinary approaches to enhance performance, health, and sleep within the military nutrition environment.This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20 lbs. may be required.May travel to complete work assignments. EVALUATIONS:QualificationsA bachelor’s degree in in physiology, sports and physical education, exercise science, human performance, health education, or community or public health with demonstrated experience working with athletes in a performance setting, or military environment. Demonstrated experience in teaching and coaching large groups. Must obtain the Semper Fit Sleep Coach Certification in the first 3 months (internally supported). Master’s degree or higher preferred. Professional certification from an accredited organization such as the ACSM, CEP, NSCA, CSCS, CSCCa , SCCC, or equivalent is required.
- Demonstrate the ability to design and implement a vision for comprehensive sleep, performance, and health education programs.
- Professional experience writing, publishing, and developing prevention-based curriculum in sleep, performance, recovery, and health education curriculum for target populations.
- Demonstrate experience with community health campaigns or large-scale health fairs provided to the community or within a collegiate setting preferred.
- Demonstrate experience with the delivery and oversight of primary prevention-based resources, programs, facilities, and policies related to sleep science, the optimization of recovery and adaptation, and general health and wellness education.
- Experience working in an athletic collegiate, professional sport or military environment.
- At least one year of experience implementing and executing a budget for large scale programs is desired.
- Ability to obtain or demonstrate experience as a sleep health coach, educator, or implementing a sleep health curriculum is desired.
- The ability to articulate an understanding of health literacy needs of the population related to physical recovery, injury prevention, sleep health, and disease prevention orally and in writing is desired.
- The ability to obtain a sleep health coach certification within the first 12 months is desired.
