Our highly dedicated and supportive team would be very keen to welcome you to our team!”– Jodi Shipp | Nurse Unit Manager E1Where you’ll be working:John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct (JHHIP) is entering a new phase, to connect the existing hospital structure to the new acute services building, to deliver enhanced and expanded facilities to meet the health needs of the local community.A temporary relocation of ward E1 is required to allow critical infrastructure works to be undertaken at John Hunter Hospital as part of John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct project – 28 beds from Rehabilitation (E1) will relocate to The Maitland Hospital level 5 from the 30th of April 2024, for a period of no longer than 24 months. This new unit at The Maitland Hospital will be staffed 24/7 as necessary to support sub-acute patients.The Maitland Hospital recently transitioned to a brand new $470 million building, designed in consultation with clinical experts, giving our patients access to state-of-the-art medical care in a modern and high-quality health facility designed to meet the needs of the growing community.About the location:Maitland is in a vibrant area filled with heritage, culture, natural beauty, and gourmet dining. Ranging from gold rush towns and historical museums to pristine waterways and beaches, there are always exciting places to see and things to do in the area.The beach, vineyards, airport, and Lake Macquarie are all within a 30–40-minute drive, but right outside your door is a wonderful community that you can join.Maitland is just a two-hour drive north of Sydney.About the role:John Hunter Rehabilitation Services offers an excellent opportunity to develop your rehabilitation skills and clinical skills to support patients in the sub-acute inpatient setting.

  • As a valued nurse within the unit, you will work closely with the Rehabilitation Clinical Nurse Educator and Clinical Nurse Consultants, Allied Health, and Medical Teams
  • You will have an excellent opportunity to expand and develop your professional and clinical skills in rehabilitation by attending our weekly in-services, rehabilitation grand rounds, and medicine grand rounds
  • As a service, we also offer a transition to a rehabilitation program for Registered Nurses to rotate through our specialist wards

Support for the role:

  • An enhanced education team including after-hours education support with increased Nursing Hours Per Patient Per Day (6NHPPD) enabling excellence in healthcare delivery and positive outcomes for patients and staff
  • A formal orientation will be provided at the commencement and supernumerary shifts to support your transition into rehabilitation and a sub-acute model of care
  • You will have access to a full-time rehabilitation-specific educator
  • You will be mentored by the Clinical Nurse Specialist on the ward during your transition into the workplace
