Join the Oregon Youth Authority (OYA) as our Training Academy Director and play a vital role in shaping the future of our organization. As the Training Academy Director, you’ll lead our Training Academy team, overseeing the development and implementation of a comprehensive statewide training plan. Your responsibilities will include reviewing training policies, maintaining training records, managing the training budget, and contributing to the Development Services leadership team.

Top Duties of the position:

  • Manages the day-to-day business and program operations related to agency identified initiatives and consistent with agency goals and objectives.
  • Direct and lead a team of seven professional staff to provide effective training to juvenile justice workers throughout the state of Oregon.

Hybrid Telework: This position is eligible for a flexible remote work schedule, and you will be required to come into the office as needed. Remote work is evaluated periodically to ensure business needs are being met and can be adjusted at any time. * We may use this recruitment to fill future vacancies.

  • Starting Salary Expectations New to State Government: $75,084.00 yearly to $86,928.00 yearly; based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity (should you have significant years of experience performing this work, starting salary may be higher).
  • Position Salary Range: up to $124,200.00 Annual Salary.
  • This position receives annual increases on anniversary date until the maximum of the salary range is reached.

  • Knowledge and experience in implementing trauma-informed approaches when training staff who will be working with juveniles and families involved in the justice system.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing priorities, regulations, and best practices within the juvenile justice field, while remaining flexible in responding to the needs of trainees and impacted partners..
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a training team effectively, provide guidance, and inspire confidence among staff and trainees.
  • Proficiency in interpreting statutes, rules, and policies relevant to juvenile justice, and the ability to develop training materials that align with legal requirements and organizational policies.
  • Evident commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in their leadership and in the administration of training operations
  • Evident commitment to the developmental approach to working with young people and the workforce
