About the Role

The is currently recruiting for Technical Officer (Chemistry Research) to join a team of chemistry and physics technical specialists to manage world class research facilities that support high quality, innovative programs of research.

The Technical Officer (Chemistry Research) is responsible for providing technical assistance to the Faculty of Science to achieve its teaching and research objectives in the chemistry discipline. The role supports laboratory equipment in the chemistry research laboratories as well as laboratory safety.

Based on our Sydney Campus, in our Laboratories, this position plays an important role in providing technical support to the operation of chemical research laboratories. The Technical Officer will be responsible for maintaining and training of laboratory equipment used in chemistry research laboratories.

If successful for this role, some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct laboratory and equipment inductions
  • Conduct and coordinate training in laboratory equipment and procedures in chemistry research laboratories.
  • Provide competency-based training and booking access administration, maintaining operating procedures, and training records.
  • Ensure laboratories comply with health and safety requirements and conduct regular laboratory inspections.
  • Maintain chemical inventories and safe storage locations used in chemical research.

With examples from your previous work experience, please outline, in a separate document, how you meet the following six (6) key selection criteria points below:

1. Demonstrated computer skills in commonly used programs in the Microsoft suite, such as Microsoft Word and email as well as experience with analytical instrumentation software.

2. Ability to instruct and train researchers and students on specialised scientific equipment and instrumentation.

3. Ability to apply and contribute to development, maintenance, and review of standard operating procedures.

4. Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining laboratory equipment/instruments relevant to inorganic and organic chemistry research laboratories e.g., analytical instruments, glove boxes, Schlenk lines, vacuum systems, freeze dryers and rotary evaporators.

5. Demonstrated experience with implementing Health and Safety in a laboratory including conducting Health and Safety Work inspections and experience with handling hazardous chemicals including gases.

6. Demonstrated ability to solve problems.
Remuneration/Salary

Remuneration and Benefits

Base Salary Range: $78,667 to $89,995 pa (HEW 5)

This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full-time and the appointment will be made on a continuing basis.

Expected salary: $78667 – 89995 per year
