WHAT YOU’LL DOAs the ESA Special Education Leader and Interventionist, you will:Support special education leadership:

  • Lead professional development for special education teachers on all aspects of the IEP process.
  • Provide IEP and progress report feedback to special education teachers.
  • Support with maintaining 100% special education compliance in the elementary academy by assisting in scheduling and coordinating meetings, completing relevant paperwork, and coordinating with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Special Education Vice Principal to analyze teacher data and provide targeted additional support for teachers in areas of greatest need.

Provide Intervention to students:

  • Provide data-driven individual and small group instruction for students in reading and math
  • Use a range of summative and formative assessment data, including Achievement Network data, DIBELs, and iReady to create groups, inform and differentiate instruction.
  • Work with academy classroom teams to establish and administer growth plans for students.
  • Build strong relationships with each of your students to ensure you have a strong foundation for academic instruction.
  • Collaborate with and support colleagues in weekly professional development opportunities, RTI meetings, and meetings.
  • Provide emotional constancy and support for your students — and your colleagues.
  • Communicate and work closely with students’ families.
  • Utilize teaching techniques to ensure that routines and transitions are quick and effective.
  • Receive regular, individualized coaching from IP’s instructional leadership team to grow your practice.

  • You are an exemplary special education teacher, well-versed in writing IEPs, progress reports, and communicating with families about progress towards IEP goals.
  • You’re detail oriented and able to manage the legal specificities of special education compliance work.
  • You have a history of effectively using academic data to drive small-group instruction.
  • You have experience as a lead teacher and a history of raising student achievement in a low-income school.
  • You have a strong background in the Science of Reading research and teaching practices.
  • You have strong systems for collecting and analyzing student data on a daily basis.
  • You want to work closely with your peers in a collaborative setting.
  • You want to work in a feedback-rich culture, and are eager to grow your practice through individual coaching and professional development opportunities.
  • You believe effective instruction is full of joy and rigor.
  • You have consistently partnered with families as part of your plan for student success.
  • You have a track record of holding high expectations for yourself and your students.
  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree, and ideally certification to teach in D.C.
