The incumbent assists the DOTD Surveyor Manager in managing field survey crews. Travels statewide to give direction, training, and to distribute supplies and delivers project requests to field survey crews.The incumbent assists the Surveyor Manager in estimating project timelines. Also, provides oversight for property surveys, topographic surveys, geodetic surveys and hydrographic surveys. Provides oversight in troubleshooting on surveys during the construction phase of the projects should problems arise. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional land surveying plus one of the following:Two years of licensed land surveying experience; ORSix years of professional land surveying experience.NOTE:
Surveying experience gained while licensed as a professional land surveyor will be accepted as licensed land surveying experience.Surveying experience gained after earning a bachelor’s degree and 30 semester hours in land surveying, mapping, and real property courses and prior to earning a Professional Land Surveyor license (e.g., as a Surveyor Intern or equivalent) will be accepted as professional-level surveying experience.Job ConceptsFUNCTION OF WORK:

May be used by any state agency.JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Surveyor 5 by the presence of direct supervisory responsibility.Differs from Survey Manager by the absence of managerial responsibility.Examples of Work70% Manages and coordinates the activities of field survey units composed of Surveyors 3 – 5, Engineering Technician supervisors, and other engineering technicians performing topographic, boundary, hydrographic and geodetic survey work.10% Reviews survey data obtained by subordinates including the computing, plotting and survey map preparation.5% Special survey projects involving geodetic methods, direct involvement in particularly complicated and/or detailed survey requirements and other projects as assigned by the Surveyor Administrator or his assistants.5% Furnishes technical expertise and advice to our Legal Section and contract attorneys and acts as an expert witness in litigation involving land boundaries.5% Reviews, approves, signs and seals right of way maps prepared by subordinates, under direct supervision, causing them to become legal documents.5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.Louisiana State Government represents a wide variety of career options and offers an outstanding opportunity to make a difference through public service.
