Job description: Job Description:Job Title:Summer Harvard Academy TeacherJob Summary:The Harvard Academy Teacher will provide a rigorous academic virtual environment that actively engages students using the district electronic curriculum delivery tool Edmentum. The Harvard Academy Teacher will support students and provide immediate feedback on their personalized learning.Qualifications:Professional Educator License (PEL) or eligible for appropriate licensePrevious Harvard Academy experience preferred.Evaluation:The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on staff Evaluation.Reports to:Summer School AdministratorTerms of Employment:This is a part-time, hourly position for four weeks, from June 2nd to June 26th, with an additional four days of planning and professional development to be determined.

FLSA Status:ExemptDuties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates students’ learning in correlation with the Illinois Learning Standards and District-identified Essential Standards.
  • Engages with students daily through live, in-person interactions.
  • Demonstrates familiarity and experience using the district’s curriculum delivery tools and instructional resources.
  • Demonstrates commitment to established hours of Harvard Academy instruction.

Successfully delivers in-person instruction and interacts with students throughout the lessons.
Provides immediate feedback to students during in-person interactions.

  • Configures lessons and selects instructional strategies to ensure that all students can answer the lesson’s essential question by its conclusion.
  • Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and goals, providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Creates and nurtures a supportive classroom community that promotes personal empowerment, academic growth, and social-emotional well-being for all learners.
  • Provides students with time to interact with instructional resources and materials in a thoughtful, active manner to support their comprehension and long-term retention of information.
  • Allows students to take an active role in their learning by setting and monitoring individualized goals, and engaging in reflection during lessons.
  • Implements each student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) as written and collaborates with colleagues to ensure appropriate modifications or accommodations.
  • Assists and provides support to students struggling with social-emotional and behavioral concerns through the MTSS framework.
  • Collaboratively plans with other summer school program teachers.

Physical Demands:A classroom teacher’s physical demands include frequent standing, walking, and sitting periods. Teachers must be able to move around the classroom to interact with students, manage classroom activities, and assist with assignments or group work. The role requires occasional lifting or carrying of instructional materials, books, or classroom supplies. Teachers must be able to use various teaching tools, including technology, whiteboards, and classroom equipment. Clear verbal communication is essential for delivering lessons and engaging with students. Managing classroom behavior, which may require movement around the room to provide individual support, is necessary. Additionally, the teacher may need to assist with physical tasks related to classroom setup, such as arranging furniture or preparing materials.
