Job description: About the role
Reporting to the Coordinator Strategic Planning, you will contribute in developing strategic plans, structure plans, urban design frameworks, guidelines, and policies for the City. These documents will be comprehensive, modern, and aligned with the goals and objectives of both the City and its community.

Work type: Permanent full time
Classification: Band 6 ($90,263 – $97,365 pa plus super)

Key responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and implement strategic plans, guidelines, policies and planning projects.
  • As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, provide professional advice and ensure strategic planning considerations are addressed within the department and by consultants during the preparation of strategic plans, policies, guidelines and amendments to the Planning Scheme.
  • Manage and action the preparation and processing of planning scheme amendments in accordance with relevant planning legislation.
  • Review, analyse and comment on documents provided by officers, consultants and external sources.
  • Provide an information base for Council, the community, government agencies, developers and the local business sector regarding strategic/structure plans and policies.
  • Prepare project briefs, funding submissions, Council reports and briefing papers and other reports as required.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in Town Planning, or related field and experience in similar roles.

Essential Experience:

  • Knowledge and ability to prepare strategic plans, guidelines, policies and manage a range of projects.
  • Knowledge of planning scheme amendment processes including strategic justification, development of new clauses, schedules and maps and planning scheme amendment procedures in accordance with the Planning and Environment Act and Victorian Planning Provisions.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to translate technical information into plain English.
  • Highly developed project management skills and experience and the demonstrated ability to manage own time to achieve targets within a set timeline.
