About the Commission

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (the Commission) is an independent statutory body established to promote integrity within South Australian public administration. The Commission investigates reports of corruption within public administration and actively prevents corruption by undertaking evaluations of the practices, policies and procedures of public agencies. The Commission also delivers education programs which seek to guide the conduct of public officers in the South Australian public sector.

The Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Legal Officer to play a critical role in supporting the Independent Commission Against Corruption (the Commission) to achieve its statutory functions.

Working closely with the Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, the Senior Legal Officer is responsible for the provision of high quality expert legal advice in relation to strategic issues associated with the discharge of the Commission’s statutory functions.

The Senior Legal Officer will work collaboratively across the Commission’s multidisciplinary teams in order to support the prevention and investigation of corruption in South Australian public administration.

Persons engaged as Senior Legal Officers will be responsible for providing guidance to Legal Officers.

Requirements

To be successful in the role you must possess:

  • Tertiary qualifications in human resources management or demonstrated equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor of Laws or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • Admitted, or eligible for admission, as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia and the High Court of Australia.
  • Significant expertise providing legal advice regarding the discharge of statutory powers in a law enforcement environment or in the context of complex investigations.
  • Demonstrated experience in litigation and advocacy.
  • Capacity to identify trends and issues relevant to the Commission in the discharge of its statutory functions, and to make recommendations accordingly.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide written legal advice on complex and difficult matters in a clear, timely and accurate manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to distil complex legal concepts into appropriately worded policies and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to present complex legal matters in a clear, cogent and understandable manner.
  • Demonstrated excellence in making sound and rational decisions in a timely manner.

Special conditions

Applicants will be required to undergo psychometric profiling.
Shortlisted applicants will be required to complete a statutory declaration verifying their statement of claims.
Any offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory security and integrity assessment.
Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at Negative Vetting Level 1.
