About the role:
We are seeking a highly motivated lawyer to join our team in providing high quality legal services to clients across the Barwon region of Victoria.

Based at our Geelong office, you will appear as an advocate through providing duty lawyer services in local courts, including in the Family Advocacy and Support Service (FASS), as well as provide casework and advice services in family law matters of varying complexity. You will participate in community legal education and develop collaborative relationships between VLA and local stakeholders.

In addition to the above responsibilities, our Senior Family Lawyers provide legal supervision, mentoring, training, and contribute to the professional development of less experienced lawyers and assist in the development of strategies to improve access to justice, including representing VLA in consultations and working groups.

About you:
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Knowledge and advocacy experience in family law and relevant court procedures, with the technical proficiency to conduct quality case work in complex family law, family violence and child protection matters.
  • Stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to positively engage with clients and key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and your demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with others and fostering a supportive team environment.
  • Ability to supervise legal work and to mentor and train staff and contribute to the development of individuals and their knowledge and skills in family law.
