National Botanical Gardens Division – Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated, professional and responsible person to develop, implement and coordinate the Biodiversity Education and Public Engagement Programs at Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden.

This position requires an advanced diploma or degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Education, Conservation, or equivalent qualification with NQF 7. A postgraduate qualification in Environmental Management, Environmental Education, Conservation, or equivalent degree at NQF 8 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 4 years of work experience in relevant field.

The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: advanced knowledge and experience in working with learners, educators and community members; comprehensive knowledge and experience of policies, procedures, processes, practices, protocols, systems, and frameworks related to environmental education and conservation; excellent knowledge and understanding of environmental education sector; proven ability to interact and manage multiple stakeholders and manage budget and finances related to the unit; proven ability to work with diverse teams whilst being quality, cost, and safety conscious; advanced planning, organising, and problem solving skills; excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; report writing skills, people management skills, excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (MS Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook) will be advantageous. The possession of a valid drivers licence with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential.

Key Performance Responsibilities include:

  • Develop, implement and coordinate the Biodiversity Education Programme;
  • Develop, implement and coordinate the Capacity Development, Awareness-raising and Outreach Greening Programmes;
  • Manage human resources for the unit; and
  • Manage budget and finances for the unit.

Expected salary: R359517 per year
