The ideal candidate will be motivated by the challenge of enhancing application performance and reliability for critical IT systems, applications, and services within the WorkSource line of business.
The WorkSource Systems (WSS) Senior DevOps Engineer serves as a vital conduit between the development and operations teams within ESD’s IT Services Division (ITSD) as an integral member of the WorkSource Systems Support unit. Reporting directly to the WorkSource System IT Manager, who in turn reports to ESD’s Deputy Chief Information Officer, this position plays a pivotal role in the successful execution of the WorkSource Integrated Technology (WIT) Replacement Project.
The WSS unit, where this role is housed, is instrumental in maintaining and operating systems for job seeker and employer services, as well as re-employment services within ESD. The unit’s primary focus is on application development for state-wide mission-critical case management, labor exchange applications, and other applications within the Workforce Services portfolio.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to work closely with other ITSD teams, divisions, and business units. Your contributions will be crucial in supporting and maintaining the WorkSource line of business. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on critical applications, systems, and services that support ESD’s mission.
This is a project position which may transition into a permanent position after December 31, 2025, depending upon the Washington State Legislative session appropriation in a future fiscal year.
Duties
- System Implementation and Management: You will be responsible for implementing, managing, and supporting the development, testing, training, staging, and production services for the WorkSource Integrated Technology (WIT) case management system and other Workforce Services Portfolio applications. This includes deploying and maintaining new technologies to create and manage production environments and providing Tier 2 and 3 support.
- CiCD: You will optimize continuous integration/continuous deployment pipelines to streamline software development processes within the Workforce Services Portfolio to enhance application performance and reliability.
- Application Testing: You will play a key role in ensuring the quality and performance of our applications through rigorous testing.
- Code Maintenance: Your duties will include maintaining code in source control repositories to ensure version control and seamless collaboration.
- Security Improvement: You will be tasked with identifying areas for improvement in the security of our applications and systems to protect our data and infrastructure.
- Software Installation and Migration: You will implement installation and migration plans for third-party and SaaS software solutions to ensure smooth integration with our existing systems.
- Documentation: You will create and maintain project and technical documentation to ensure transparency and effective knowledge transfer.
- Professional Development: We encourage you to continuously increase your knowledge and skills related to technologies and systems to stay at the forefront of industry trends.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or closely related field and seven years of *IT experience. OR Eleven (11) years of experience in combination of education and/or relevant *IT experience.
*Qualifying professional IT experience is defined as experience in one or more of the following IT disciplines: IT consulting, applications development, systems development, or systems analysis.
- Four years of experience in service-oriented design and development using C#, ASP.NET, MVC, JavaScript, PowerShell, Python, Typescript, .NET Core, and T-SQL.
- Three years of experience in DevOps principles, practices, and methodologies using software management and work item management such as Team Foundation Server, Azure DevOps, and GIT strategies.
- Three years of experience performing the full application life cycle activities of the standard Application Life Cycle Methodology (Scrum, Kanban, Waterfall, etc.)
- Three years of experience in creating deployment pipelines in Azure DevOps, Octopus or Jenkins.
- One year of experience using ARM, BICEP or Terraform.
- Three years of experience with DevOps principles, practices, and methodologies.
Additional Requirement of Employment:
