PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for accounting activities within the company and maintaining financial procedures to confirm financial compliance through the company’s reports and statements.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Prepares monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts, including but not limited to: payroll; fixed assets; sales tax payable; accrued expenses; and employee purchases.
  • Maintains the fixed asset schedule and depreciation schedules.
  • Prepares various journal entries associated with month-end close.
  • Analyzes information by developing spreadsheet reports as needed.
  • Inspects account books for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Supports assistant controller with completion of U.S. Census bureau annual surveys.
  • Supports controller in preparing information for financial statement audit.
  • Reconciles and tracks employee purchases to be reimbursed to company.
  • Research accounting issues/questions to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP.

Planning, Budgeting, and Analysis

  • Assists controller with preparation of the annual budget.
  • Supports internal audit program through auditing activities.
  • Maintains/updates project cost accounting reports as requested.
  • Develops, updates, and distributes financial analysis reports as needed.

Finance and cash management

  • Prepares weekly journal entries to record electronic bank withdrawal activity on the general ledger.
  • Upload positive pay data to bank.

Taxes

  • Reconciles sales tax payable according to monthly/quarterly/annual state filing frequency.
  • Reviews vendor invoices for missing use tax and refundable sales tax.
  • Files sales tax returns and remits sales and use tax to the proper state taxing authorities.
  • Files purchasers claim sales tax refund requests.
  • Prepares documentation for external auditors.
  • Maintains Avalara AvaTax sales tax automation software and exemption certificate library.
  • Supports controller and assistant controller tax/compliance duties as necessary.
  • Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
  • Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
  • Serve as occasional back-up receptionist to the front desk administrative assistant.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

QUALITIFCATIONS FOR ENTRY:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent, plus 4 to 7 years of related experience and/or training.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Leadership and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to read and analyze financial reports.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. sales tax regulations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Anderson Dahlen fosters a manufacturing type environment. This position will primarily involve operating a computer at a desk in an office environment.
