Samarcand Training Academy is the primary training facility within the Department of Public Safety and provides both in-residence and commuter, basic and advanced training courses for Special Agents of the North Carolina SBI and ALE, Troopers of the North Carolina Highway Patrol, members of the North Carolina National Guard, officers of Probation & Parole and Juvenile Justice, officers with the UNC System, and members of county and municipal law enforcement from across the state. Samarcand Training Academy currently consists of two campuses; the 460-acre main campus in Moore County, and the 113-acre satellite campus in Montgomery County which is the future home of the Center for Safer Schools. The main campus is made up of 22 buildings; housing staff and instructor offices; a dining facility; a gymnasium; two (2) fitness centers; an auditorium; 13 classrooms; twelve (12) dormitories with 195 student and instructor beds; a Weapons Training Simulator; Firearms Training Center with two (2) live-fire ranges and range house; a physically challenging obstacle course, and a tactical training building. Center for Safer Schools satellite campus includes multiple classrooms and offices, a gymnasium, a cafeteria, a library, an admin building, a large auditorium, and several sports venues. Staff members of Samarcand Training Academy serve both campuses, and while most will have office space on the main campus, several will be co-located with other entities at the Center for Safer Schools campus in the near future.This is protective, security and public contact work in the operation of the Samarcand Training Academy. In this class the employee will act as a lead worker for a security team. As a lead worker, an employee in this class serves as the training coordinator for Guards, mentors new Guards, responding to fire alarms, emergency situations, first aid and other events, and any reports of suspicious activity. Additional responsibilities:
- Recommend solutions regarding facility and security issues.
- Coordinate work with outside agencies such as local law enforcement and fire departments and assist in planning for events.
- Responsible for monitoring assigned areas for possible violation of laws and regulations.
- Patrolling property to guard property against fire, safety hazards, damage, and theft in all weather conditions.
- Monitor alarm panels, indicators, and surveillance systems.
- Utilize electronic card access and security/surveillance systems to monitor building access and activity for security and safety.
- Maintain and prepare daily records and reports.
Employee will operate within specified rules and regulations and receive work assignments from a higher-level supervisor. Employee must always maintain professionalism, honesty, and integrity in all situations in the presence of other state officials, campus guests and visitors. - Experience as a team lead or lead worker.
Management Preferences:
- Experience using RFID or other keycard system.
- Experience Security Patrolling Government Buildings/Property.
- Experience doing Static and Mobile security patrol.
