Villa Academy seeks a full-time Second Grade Teacher to join its team beginning August 19, 2025. This educator will be creating a supportive, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment that fosters both academic and social-emotional growth. Beyond the classroom, they will have access to our multi-acre outdoor space with wooded trails, a garden, an outdoor learning pavilion, and a greenhouse. This is a ten-month, salaried-exempt position that follows the academic calendar, reporting to the Director of Lower School.The ideal candidate is a passionate educator with a deep understanding of Second Grade, particularly in fostering skill development. Additionally, this candidate will excel at managing multiple projects simultaneously and enjoy collaborating with fellow educators.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach
  • one of two Second Grade classes, supported by a shared Instructional Assistant.
  • Design and deliver engaging, inquiry-based lessons that align with the Second Grade curriculum and standards, including Common Core, NGSS, SSSI, and Learning for Justice, ensuring they meet the diverse needs of all learners.
  • Guide students in developing essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies that foster respect, inclusion, and positivity, incorporating Villa Academy’s social-emotional learning and anti-bias curriculum.
  • Work closely with the rest of the Lower School team to support students’ development and ensure they are well-prepared for success in Third Grade.
  • Effectively partner and communicate with families, colleagues, and administration to appropriately challenge and support students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and improve instructional strategies.
  • Integrate technology and hands-on activities to enhance learning experiences.
  • Regularly assess, evaluate, and provide feedback on student performance.
  • Participate in faculty/staff, grade level, and division meetings, and perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, or a related field; Master’s degree and/or teaching credential preferred.
  • 3+ years of teaching experience with elementary-aged students.
  • In-depth understanding of, and experience with, inquiry-based learning in early childhood education settings.
  • Passion for working with Second Grade students, with a deep understanding of their developmental needs and learning styles.
  • Proven ability to implement effective classroom support strategies and foster positive relationships with young learners, particularly through the Responsive Classroom approach.
  • Experience with and appreciation for purposeful play, as well as a solid foundation in interdisciplinary, STEAM-focused, and project-based learning.
  • Desire to utilize outdoor spaces to introduce children to nature and facilitate connections between them and their environment.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology including document cameras, interactive whiteboards, web-based learning software, and Google apps.
  • ??Excellent communication skills for working with students, parents, faculty/staff, and campus partners.
  • Positive energy and enthusiasm for working in a Preschool through Eighth Grade, faith-based independent school.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional growth, curiosity, cultural humility, and antiracism, as well as an understanding of its critical role in academic excellence and student growth.

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:
Anticipated salary ranges between $51,501.73 – 118,430.02/year, dependent upon education and experience. Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications.
