This position serves as a crucial member of the school community, providing comprehensive counseling services to support the academic, social, and emotional development of students within the juvenile justice system. This position involves collaboration with students, families, instructors, facilities providers, and administrators to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment. School Counselors deliver developmentally appropriate activities and services. School Counselors are active members of the school community and support staff, students, and parents/guardians in achieving the mission of the school.Essential Position Functions:

  • Host small and large group sessions for students including but not limited to the following: social emotional learning support, academic information sessions, transition, and articulation.
  • Plan and host school wide events and other student recognition events.
  • Assist and provide consultation to students and families in the enrollment and course selection process.
  • Determine eligibility requirements and collaborate with enrollment techs and registrars to gather required documents.
  • Collaborate with the Administration team in master schedule decisions/needs. Review academic records and determine appropriate course placement as well as identify screening needs for intensive support or acceleration.
  • Course scheduling, schedule changes, ensure promotion/graduation requirements are met as well as any requirements or documents needed. Support withdrawal process and gather documents if needed.
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders (email, text, communication tool, SIS, newsletter, website, weekly update, staff meetings).
  • Provide academic, articulation, and social emotional support information and resources as requested.
  • Create and host sessions for parents and staff and provide updated communication on varied topics throughout the year.
  • Support college and career readiness and exploration.
  • Work closely with school administration and facility administration to ensure individual student needs are met.
  • Collaborate with other teams (Enrollment/Assessment, ESE, MTSS, ELL, Student Services) to ensure individual student needs are met; attend associated meetings (IEP/504 meetings, SST, and TAT).
  • Provide completed input forms/documentation as requested to support student success.
  • Implement Tier 1 mental health support and resiliency curriculum support when needed. Be an active participant in Threat Assessment Team Meetings, Re-entry meetings and additional support as warranted. Activate handle with care and monitor student progress accordingly. Assist with student crisis and follow-up as needed.
  • Provide individual student and parent/guardian support based on need (technical assistance, academic, counseling, resiliency, etc.).
  • Work to ensure assigned help tickets are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Create and monitor tickets submitted to address student needs and support workflow accordingly.
  • Be an active participant in the school community, attend school, grade level, and team meetings and functions. Attend other school wide events as required (ex: pre-planning, graduation, student services events, and other FLVS professional development days).
  • Stay up to date on the latest legislative changes that impact the role of School Counselor.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development for continued growth.
  • Any other academic related topic established at the discretion of the Superintendent of Schools, Florida Scholars Academy or Regional Director, Florida Scholars Academy.
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrating respect for others.

  • Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling from an accredited college/university.
  • Valid professional Florida certificate in Guidance and Counseling.

Experience:

  • Three years’ high school, middle school or elementary school guidance experience.
