Job description: Job Title: Safety SpecialistJob DescriptionReports to the Corporate Safety Director. Responsible for educating field personnel on correct safety procedures and ensuring safety policies are followed.Responsibilities
- Ensure that the intent of policies, procedures, and quality standards is followed.
- Conduct site safety audits to recognize and correct unsafe conditions and behaviors.
- Prescribe corrective actions and measures for recurring audit items and develop related training sessions.
- Investigate all incidents and generate proper reports.
- Aid in accident/incident investigation as needed.
- Create, conduct, and document Tool Box Talks.
- Conduct task training as planned and needed.
- Ensure and maintain all required signage is properly posted.
- Stop work to remedy serious or life-threatening safety deficiencies, violations, or unsafe practices.
- Complete and file disciplinary actions with documentation.
- Provide leadership with a focus on safe work practices and pre-task planning.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a professional manner.
- Assist in planning and implementing all project safety needs.
- Actively participate in operational planning to eliminate hazards.
- Monitor safety portions of OPS Plans and work with the foreman to correct any issues.
- Investigate and procure new task-specific safety systems/equipment and educate crews and superintendents.
- Conduct on-site inspections and control hazardous working conditions through teaching and coaching.
- Reward and recognize field personnel for outstanding safety initiatives.
- Attend and actively participate in daily morning huddles with job crews and daily end-of-shift meetings when possible.
- Educate foremen on proper daily work plans/JHA procedures and hold them accountable.
- Assist with or lead the weekly safety meeting.
- Continue education regarding safety through seminars, meetings, and higher education.
- Network, communicate, and stay current on safety topics and relevant issues in the construction industry.
- Perform additional duties as directed by supervisors.
Essential Skills
- Experience or Interest in construction, solar, safety, and solar construction.
- Knowledge or Interest of ground mount solar projects.
- Safety Degree (bachelor’s preferred) or equivalent experience plus certification.
- Certifications or open to getting the following: BCSP, GSP, ASP, CHSP.
- Ability to travel full-time, mostly for Midwestern-based projects.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Strong back log of ground mount/utility scale solar projects (100MW+ in size).
- Experience supporting the electrical scope in solar projects.
- Potential to go direct after 12 months if work continues to be pushed through.
Work EnvironmentThe role involves working on-site at ground mount solar projects, primarily in Wisconsin, with initial placement in Illinois for an 8-month project. The work week consists of 5 days, and the main responsibilities include electrical installations, cabling, and wiring. The work environment includes collaboration with a team of union and non-union employees. Strong reputation and support for large GC’s/EPC’s in solar jobs. The role may require travel to other sites post-project completion, with the possibility of returning to Wisconsin for full-time work.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $33.00 – $38.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
