Why Your Role Matters:

As a Research Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting research projects as part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers in the area of biomedical research.

You will provide technical and research assistance to senior research staff in activities associated with various research projects, including the contribution and application of knowledge in the field of biomedical research to a range of projects conducted within the Surgical and Orthopaedic Research Laboratories (SORL) which is situated within the Prince of Wales Clinical School. You will be responsible for processing and performing various laboratory tasks on pre-clinical studies, as required to ensure a smooth and effective workflow.

The role reports to the Senior Research Fellow, Surgical & Orthopaedic Research Laboratories.

Who You Are:

  • A university degree in Science or related discipline, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training or experience.
  • Experience in histopathology techniques such as sectioning and staining of soft tissue and bone from paraffin embedded blocks (highly desirable).
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a research laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal communication skills to initiate and maintain effective relationships with staff and students.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
