The Role:

NW Natural is seeking an experienced Operations Specialist to support the Company’s investments in Renewable Natural Gas (RNG). This is a highly visible and quickly growing field of the business. This position will provide bookkeeping, procurement, administrative and project support for the company’s renewable partnerships.

Day to Day:

Bookkeeping – Responsible for entering, reviewing, and analyzing QuickBooks data

  • Receive and review invoices and process payments

– Allocate against accurate GL account
– Monitor costs against budget
– Determine acceptable deviation from budget

  • Review field personnel timecards, identify and report budgeted activity deviations
  • Record company’s financial transactions including but not limited to:

– Revenues
– Monthly revenues generated from gas sales (one to two entries per month)
– Depreciation
– Expenses including routine utility fees, vendor services, materials suppliers, labor and all other miscellaneous costs

  • Manage and record financial accruals

– Determine values of routine accruals
– Calculate revenue sharing and gas shortage allocations
– Calculate gas transport costs and variance to contract requirements

  • Coordinate with field personnel to maintain inventory usage and values
  • Create, maintain, and provide analysis of:

Monthly financial reports including
– Balance sheet
– Bank reconciliation
– Budget to actual (monthly and year to date)
– Cash flow
– Profit and loss
– General ledger and general ledger accounts
– Monthly variance reports
Quarterly financial reports including
– XIRR and RIO
– County and State tax reports
– Profit and loss

Day to Day (Continued):

  • Prepare and submit approved annual local, state, and federal income tax reports/filing
  • Assist Operations Manager in the preparation of

– Cash flow forecasts (monthly)
– Updated proforma (quarterly)
– Operating budget for subsequent fiscal year (annually)

  • Assist Accountant/Auditing firm in the preparation of annual audited financial reports

– Audited balance sheet
– Cash flow
– Profit and Loss

  • Ensure completeness of backup documentation
  • Coordinate project-level financials with NW Natural accounting/accounts payable.

Procurement

  • Establish relationships with vendors, obtain quotes and assist in the negotiation of best value services
  • Create purchase requisitions/purchase orders
  • Ensure the adoption of NWN procurement policies

Administrative Support

  • Manage the submittal of business licensing and regulatory compliance reports
  • Coordinate the assignment of insurance policies
  • Distribute/submit required reports and documentation to business partners, gas suppliers and stakeholders

Project Execution

  • Provide subject matter expertise in the PMO process
  • Assist with project execution activities for:

– Obtaining project funding approvals
– Developing and distributing of Request for Proposal (RFP) for technical and project-related services
– Developing and monitoring of project budgets
– Complying with NWN’s PMO execution requirements

Day to Day (Continued):

Department Support

  • Update RNG team Dashboard in SharePoint with information/graphs from Portfolio and Actuals spreadsheets
  • Update Decarbonization Dashboard (SharePoint on the Hub) with information/graphs from Portfolio and Actuals spreadsheets
  • Update dashboard for due diligence and design/construction projects
  • Process and track purchase requisitions, purchase orders and invoices for the Renewables team. Maintain supporting documentation.
  • Maintain production Actuals spreadsheet (monthly)

– MRETS software

– Accept incoming transactions/validate volumes

– Generate monthly volume data for operating projects

– Retire RTCs (with direction)

– Process transfers (with direction)

  • Identify contractual volume issues (compare actual to expected to determine if contractual remedies are needed)
  • Gather and record quarterly forecasts from resources
  • Assist with annual RFP process
  • Track required documentation from operating projects (ex. Balance sheet, volume report, bank reconciliation). Follow up on missing or incomplete reports.
  • Assist with processing NDAs
  • Complete document checklist for executed projects. Follow up regarding missing documentation.
  • Monitor renewables@nwnatural.com inbox and forward emails to appropriate contact for follow-up
  • Support and assist all contractual relationships for all decarb projects, including training, documentation management, meeting management, etc.
  • Gather information for regulatory programs and distribute to other internal groups
  • Support rate case data requests, pulling ASP reports, identifying transactions, and coordinating the request for technical inquires
  • Lead departmental adoption, use and training for IT initiatives, software rollouts, new technologies, and processes.

Come on your first day with:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 years’ demonstrated bookkeeping experience and general knowledge of bookkeeping best-practices.
  • Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Software Experience

– QuickBooks (preferred)

– MS Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint

– SharePoint

Base salary range: $70,700.00 – $97,000.00 per year, depending on qualifications

Annual Target Incentive: 7.5% target
Targets are calculated using eligible earnings during plan year participation. Payout, if earned, is based on company and individual performance for each plan year and may range from 0% – 200% of target. Targets are subject to change in subsequent plan years. Must be employed by September 30 in order to receive any prorated payout.
