  • Provide Interior & Furniture Design management for the client throughout the duration of the project and for the warranty period after the design firm has left the project. Review and comments of building finishes. Review building program document for space requirement, provide a check on the space allotment and square footage accuracy.
  • Provide early budget information prior to hiring a furniture planning firm. Coordinate and assist the furniture planning consultant contract and/or ASP with procurement department and CPC Project Manager.
  • Oversee the furniture kick-off process with furniture planning consultant, institution expectations, and re-use issues.
  • Oversee the furniture planning programming by reviewing schedules and agendas of furniture programming meeting with user group and review furniture programming document.
  • Oversee the preliminary (schematic) design for furniture planning services by developing concepts, visioning sessions, review of preliminary (schematic) furniture layouts, review of design direction discussion, project schedule, and coordinate data/electric connections requirement with project manager.
  • Oversee design development layouts, review mock-up schedule and document choices, review of cost estimate, assist procurement in the bid strategies, and best value documentation during the furniture planning Design Development phase.
  • Assist and coordinate with contract and procurement departments in regards to furniture planning, procurement, solicitation/analysis in accordance to state law and UTS requirements. Provide input to ensure the orders are planed at the right time, to meet budgetary and project timeline.
  • Oversee furniture planning administrative process, such as contacting vendors to confirm order placement, conduct pre-installation conference, furniture installation, verify building completion status, approve invoices, and track purchases with manufacturers and leverage deliveries/repairs/warranty work on projects.
  • Resolve installation issues, receive warranties and master keys, and 12-month post occupancy furnishings evaluation with end user.
  • Assist with building move-in as requested and assist with warranty issues for a period of 1 year.
  • Other related functions as assigned. Collaborate with other UT Austin colleagues to initiate and develop process improvements.

Required QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Interior Design. Registered Interior Designer in the state of Texas. Minimum ten years experience as an interior designer and furniture planning. Ability to apply thorough knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures for the area of expertise to difficult and unique assignments. Ability to design, develop, review, and provide furniture planning services, and procure furniture in an institution of higher education or related environment. Proven ability to manage multiple projects at once. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Strong computer skills. Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationship with external clients and co-workers. Must have ability to travel. CTCM/CTCD, LEED AP Certification and must have working knowledge of LEED documentation, MS Office, and CAD.Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.Preferred QualificationsFifteen or more years of experience in higher education interior design and furniture planning. Knowledge of specialized standards related to construction in the area of expertise. Experience in higher education pedagogy, planning, and construction. Experience in reviewing acknowledgements, manufacturing lead and delivery times, and sequencing and supervision of furniture installation. Coordinate building systems with furnishings at all design and construction stages. Possess strong scheduling, problem solving and time management skills. Ability to create and maintain detailed spreadsheets and/or document for audit purposes. An extensive knowledge of furniture manufacturers and furniture construction.Driving RequiredThis job requires a class “C” operator’s driver’s license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence.
