The first project investigates retinal and neural biomarkers of visual deficits in diabetic patients, aiming to improve early detection and intervention strategies. The second project develops “phenotypic fingerprints” using multimodal imaging data (fMRI, OCT-A, dMRI, etc.) to predict future neurological risks. These initiatives address regionally significant health concerns, including diabetes, obesity, and stroke, using cutting-edge technologies and large-scale cohort data from UAE nationals.Key Responsibilities
- Design and conduct neuroimaging studies integrating ophthalmological, structural, and functional data
- Apply machine learning and deep learning techniques to discover predictive health biomarkers
- Lead or support data analysis pipelines using multimodal imaging tools (fMRI, OCT-A, ASL, dMRI)
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team across NYUAD and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi
- Contribute to high-impact publications and grant proposals
- Participate in mentoring junior researchers and coordinating study protocols
- Present findings at international conferences and stakeholder meetings
Job Requirements
- PhD in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Psychology, Vision Science, or a related field
- Demonstrated expertise in at least one neuroimaging modality (e.g., fMRI, dMRI, OCT-A, ASL)
- Strong understanding of sensory neuroscience and clinical imaging study design
- Experience with large-scale data integration and processing
- Proven publication record in peer-reviewed journals
- Proficiency in programming and data analysis (Python, MATLAB, or similar)
- Collaborative mindset with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with clinical populations or epidemiological studies is an advantage
