Leads other employees in work involving installing, modifying and repairing new and existing utility, supply and disposal systems and equipment such as plumbing fixtures, service lines, sewer lines, boiler equipment, gas lines and a variety of plumbing and general maintenance tasks.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Leads and manages other plumbers and helpers in performing assigned duties. Conducts training of assigned personnel. Assigns tasks, work schedules, and passes on information as directed by the supervisor. Reports on employee performance and results of assignments. Evaluates performance, and recommends promotions and disciplinary actions, also performs other duties as assigned.RequirementsConditions of Employment

EVALUATIONS:QualificationsSKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Must have a least two years trade experience in plumbing and pipefitting. Must be able to perform all phases of work related to plumbing, water and sewage systems. Must be able to install natural gas systems. Must be able to perform grading requirements for water supply and drainage systems. Must be able to operate equipment for sewer work, unstopping drain and sewer lines and know where to properly install venting. Using accepted trade methods and techniques, performs various plumbing duties. Operates power driven equipment, treading machine, sewer auger , air pumps and compressors, abrasive cutters, drill presses, grinding machines, and portable drills. other trade related tools or equipment. Installs all varieties of pipe including copper, steel, and plastic. Installs fittings for water mains and service valves, repair clamps, flex coupling and dielectric unions. Installs fixtures, grease traps, water heaters, lavatories, bath tubs, sinks, drinking fountains, floor drains, urinals and garbage disposals. Installs hot and cold water piping systems in all types of buildings. Installs water mains and sewer lines, septic tanks and leach lines. Must possess a valid California Driver¿s License and annual physical is required.RESPONSIBILITY: Work under general supervision. The majority of the work is performed independently where the incumbent makes decisions based on personal knowledgePHYSICAL EFFORTS: Repairs and installs from ladders, scaffolding and platforms where parts and systems worked on are in hard to reach places. Work requires standing, stooping and bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Candidate must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is done inside and outside and is generally dirty, dusty and greasy. The worker is sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in inclement weather and may occasionally be required to make repairs in areas where unpleasant fumes are present.
