At HSC, you belong to a team that is transforming our world.High Level Summary of JobThe Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Subject Matter Expert (SME) provides direction for the site in multiple OHS expertise areas such as general industry occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, transportation, and emergency response.The SME defines requirements for the site through development and maintenance of standards and programs that– Ensure regulatory compliance– Effectively manage risk– Enable efficient execution of OHS work processes.The OHS SME provides consultation to site management, site operations and recommends appropriate resolution of OHS concerns.Essential duties needing to be performed by you:
- Risk Assessment: Apply hazard identification and risk assessment techniques to evaluate and prioritize risks, enabling the selection of control measures that minimize risks to the lowest practicable level (PPE, IH, Ergonomics, General Industry Safety, multiple OHS topics).
- EHS Standard Ownership / Compliance Assessments: Interprets external and internal requirements to provide technical assistance within EHSS team and site areas & functions regarding risk and hazard assessment, and EHSS program improvements.
- Implementation of Risk Controls: Utilize the hierarchy of controls to select and implement/assist with implementation of sustainable risk control measures, reducing overall risks to protect people and maintain safety.
- Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis: Lead and/or support thorough, evidence-based investigations of health, safety, and environmental incidents to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions, ensuring accurate reporting and preventing recurrence.
- Safety Meeting Content Development and Training Delivery: Develops safety and health training using presentations publications, flyers, posters, and other communication media.
- Influencing EHS Culture: Champion positive health and safety behaviors by influencing leaders and employees, fostering a culture that prioritizes health, safety, and environmental well-being.
Additional Duties/Responsibilities
- Internal Audits and Observations: Conduct inspections and monitoring to help evaluate OHS performance, identify corrective actions, and confirm compliance with respect to internal and external standards for Responsible Care Certification maintenance.
- Provides input to area improvement projects: ensure safety and health requirements are integrated within project planning, design, construction plans, procurement.
- Participates in meetings: areas, site, project teams, and contractors/subcontractors to advise them of safety and health requirements.

- Demonstrated training & training development experience.
- Knowledge and experience with ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 Management System standards.
- Specialized technical skills and knowledge related to an applicable safety or health discipline.

Minimum Required Education/Certification
- Bachelor’s Degree (Technical / EHS related degrees preferred);
- Associate’s degree considered
- External Certifications in EHSS preferred (i.e. ASP/CSP, CHST, CIH)
Minimum Required Work Experience
- 7-10 years EHSS related experience OR
- 5 years minimum with previous EHSS experience in a chemical manufacturing environment
Environment/Working Conditions
- Majority of time is spent in office, conference room setting (~60-70%).
- Adaptable and able to work outdoors in a field environment under various weather conditions (~30-40%).
- Mobility to various work/manufacturing areas is required.
The range for this positiion is $89,000 – $115,000 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to market demands, experience, training, and education.
