Job description: DescriptionIn addition to the base salary, this position is eligible for 5% premium pay for positions located in King County.This position is located approximately 30 minutes from downtown North Bend, WA at the beautiful campus of the Washington State Fire Training Academy.Click for directions.About the Position:The Maintenance Mechanic 3 role primarily focuses on overseeing facility inspections, tracking inventory, maintaining SCBA equipment, managing domestic and training water systems, fleet maintenance, security, and metal fabrication. The position also involves performing journey-level and semi-skilled tasks across various areas, such as road and grounds maintenance, operating heavy and snow equipment, maintaining firefighting training props, and overseeing equipment at the Fire Training Academy. The employee is expected to work independently, handling tasks like developing preliminary cost estimates for repairs, maintenance, and alterations, with task prioritization guided by the Maintenance Supervisor 3.About the Division:The is located just east of North Bend, Washington, the Washington State Fire Training Academy spans 51 acres, serving as a training hub for more than 5,000 firefighters annually. Beyond firefighters, the facility is utilized by a diverse range of agencies, including the FBI, ATF, Military, Insurance Companies, Maritime Industry, and local as well as state law enforcement. The extensive facility boasts four classrooms, two administrative buildings, a 44-bed dormitory, a dining facility equipped with cooking facilities, multiple storage buildings, and a variety of training props.   • Construct and repair fire training props including carpentry, steel fabrication and welding projects.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to all buildings including structural, mechanical, and electrical aspects.
  • Perform daily tasks to accommodate training, including system startup and shutdown, and snow removal.
  • Monitor fuel delivery systems, water delivery systems, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Assist the Maintenance Supervisor in instructing and leading other lower-level staff in field repairs and projects.
  • Gather pricing information for major equipment purchases, services, and repairs.
  • Develop purchasing requests and justification for the request.
  • Use of electronic data basis for data entry of maintenance reports and status updates
  • Development, recommendation, and maintenance of maintenance checklists and schedules.
  • Monitor and reports normal equipment operation and water usage.
  • Consult contracting water manager when the need arise to support the Maintenance Supervisor.

QualificationsRequired Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted Washington State Driver’s License or able to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must possess basic carpentry skills including layout framing, concrete form work.
  • Must be able to use basic hand and power tools safely, effectively and efficiently.
  • Must possess basic computer skills for sending email, completing time and travel documentation, documenting and closing work orders.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be able to lift 75 pounds repeatedly.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder.
  • Must be able to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all types of extreme weather.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to direct and communicate with others to achieve necessary work assignments.
