Job description: Logistics Officer Job DescriptionSummary: The Logistics Officer is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the organization’s logistics operations, including transportation, warehousing, inventory management, and distribution of materials, products, and services. They ensure the efficient and cost-effective movement of goods and materials throughout the supply chain.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supply Chain Management: Develop and implement strategies to optimize the supply chain processes, ensuring timely delivery of goods and materials while minimizing costs and maximizing efficiency.
  • Transportation Coordination: Manage the transportation of goods, including negotiating rates with carriers, scheduling pickups and deliveries, and monitoring the movement of shipments.
  • Warehousing and Inventory Control: Oversee warehouse operations, including inventory management, space allocation, and distribution processes. Implement systems and procedures to maintain accurate inventory records and minimize stock discrepancies.
  • Procurement and Vendor Management: Collaborate with procurement teams to secure the necessary materials, supplies, and services from reliable vendors. Negotiate contracts, manage vendor relationships, and ensure compliance with procurement policies.
  • Reporting and Analytics: Prepare and analyze logistics reports, including key performance indicators (KPIs), to identify areas for improvement and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to logistics operations, such as transportation safety, hazardous materials handling, and import/export regulations.
  • Team Management: Supervise and lead the logistics team, including hiring, training, and performance management. Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement strategies to enhance operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and customer satisfaction.
  • Contingency Planning: Develop and maintain contingency plans to mitigate potential disruptions in the supply chain, such as natural disasters, labor disputes, or transportation delays.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in logistics operations, preferably in a supervisory or management role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in logistics software, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and other relevant technology tools.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices, regulations, and trends related to logistics and supply chain management.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities effectively.
