Position Overview

The ANU School of Art and Design is seeking a new team member to contribute to its Visual Arts and Design programs. The position represents a unique opportunity to contribute toa socially-engaged, future-focused program within a vibrant, top 20 internationally ranked university. The School’s program pursues a conception of practice that is engaged, agile, ethical, transdisciplinary, and inclusive of digital and material practices. It promotes social engagement, critical practice, and cross-disciplinary partnerships to generate new forms of visual art and design, supporting creative scholarship at all level from undergraduate to PhD.

The School is seeking an esteemed artist and educator with an active record of high- quality research and professional activity to expand the Visual Arts program’s capacity in ceramics in the context of interdisciplinary practice. We seek candidates with a solid knowledge of national and international ceramics in all forms and techniques, including for example experience in wheeling throwing, hand building, clay types and their application, kiln and glaze management and studio management.

The School of Art & Design is located in the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), one of seven Colleges at ANU. The College, which is structured into two main research schools, offers degrees in more than 20 discipline areas and excels in research across the creative arts, humanities and social sciences. The College has a substantial international research presence and is a major source of national policy advice. Our academic staff are internationally recognised for their research, and 57 are members of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, the Academy of the Social Sciences of Australia, or both. We also host 13 Australian Research Council Future Fellows and three ARC Laureates. A hub of vibrant activity, we host more than 270 lectures, concerts and exhibitions each year, most of which are open to the public. Our students, staff and graduates come from more than 60 nations, bringing a diversity of perspective to campus life.
