Duties

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Serves primarily as a lead lifeguard, with responsibility for assisting the Aquatics Center management with observing swimming programs to include but not limited to; life guarding, First Aid, CPR, and monitoring pool safety training and equipment. This position reports to and receives work assignments from Aquatics Center management. Oversees tasks assigned to the lifeguards by Aquatics Center management and ensures accomplishment.

Ensures all water safety rules are observed by swimmers, utilizing a good knowledge of all aspects of water safety. Observes swimming and ensures all participants are accounted for at all times. Collects usage fees and checks ID cards.

Acts as a lifeguard performing rescue work and renders emergency first aid until qualified medical assistance arrives. Ensures the safety of both lifeguard and facility patrons ensuring that fire, safety, and security conditions are maintained for the facilities. Completes appropriate accidents reports and other required reports.

Checks the chemical balance of pool. Performs necessary maintenance work required for sanitation, cleanliness and neatness of the pool areas.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.

Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.

Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

Work involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of pool/waterfront activities.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be at least 16 years of age, be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year
under a formal student employment program (work study), OR a high school graduate. (Valid documentation will be required upon hire.)

2. Prior to employment, must possess American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR-PR certification, Oxygen, AED certification and Medical Surveillance Qualifications.

3. Must be able to accommodate flexible work schedule to include weekends, holidays, and night time.

4. Must be able to perform prolonged standing and walking, heavy lifting and carrying objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
1. Previous experience in the aquatics or other recreational fields.

2. Have a strong command of English language to include oral and written skills.

3. Knowledge in operating Microsoft Programs such as Word, Excel, etc.

4. Ability to exercise sound judgment decisions in the performance of day-to-day duties and handle difficult situations maturely and professionally even when personally criticized.
