Job description: Villa Academy is an inclusive independent school community dedicated to developing the whole child in the Cabrinian tradition of “education of the heart.” Through dynamic, inquiry-based learning, Villa students become active agents of their own intellectual growth in preparation for lives of service and purpose.
Villa Academy seeks a long-term substitute for one of our Kindergarten Teachers to join its team beginning April 28, 2025 and concluding June 13, 2025. There is also an opportunity for this position to return for Fall 2025. The Kindergarten Teacher leads and guides one of three dedicated Kindergarten classrooms at Villa, supporting whole-child student education as they navigate our inquiry-based curriculum. Energized by the opportunities of outdoor, experiential education, this classroom teacher role will enjoy access to our multi-acre outdoor space with wooded trails, a garden, an outdoor learning pavilion and a greenhouse. This is a temporary, long-term substitute position that follows the academic calendar, reporting to the Director of Lower School.The ideal candidate is an experienced, enthusiastic, and creative educator with a joyful, child-centered approach and a deep understanding of Kindergarten. They will be committed to fostering both academic growth and social-emotional well-being, demonstrating effective classroom leadership and thoughtfully adapting the curriculum to meet diverse student needs. This candidate will be able to quickly form positive relationships with students and their families, as well as support the Kindergarten student development.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach one of three Kindergarten classes, supported by two shared Instructional Assistants.
  • Implement lesson plans that align with Villa Academy’s curriculum and standards using an inquiry-based approach.
  • Support student behavior and establish classroom rules and expectations utilizing principles of Responsive Classroom.
  • Incorporate social-emotional learning into daily instruction to help students develop self-regulation, empathy, and problem-solving skills.
  • Establish clear expectations for behavior and cultivate a safe, respectful, and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Effectively partner and communicate with families, colleagues, and administration to appropriately challenge and support students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and improve instructional strategies.
  • Integrate technology and hands-on activities to enhance learning experiences.
  • Regularly assess, evaluate, and provide feedback on student performance.
  • Participate in faculty/staff, grade level, and division meetings, and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Commit to the mission, vision, and values of Villa Academy.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, or a related field; Master’s degree and/or teaching credential preferred.
  • 3+ years of teaching experience with elementary-aged students; Kindergarten experience preferred.
  • Deep understanding of child development and best practices in early learning.
  • Strong foundation in elementary education principles and effective teaching methodologies.
  • Experience with Responsive Classroom or similar student-centered behavior management approaches.
  • Genuine passion for teaching and a strong enthusiasm for helping students develop a love for learning.
  • Dedication to fostering social-emotional growth by supporting self-regulation, empathy, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in differentiated instruction to support diverse learning styles and individual student needs.
  • Experience with and appreciation for purposeful play, as well as a solid foundation in interdisciplinary, STEAM-focused, and project-based learning.
  • Desire to utilize outdoor spaces to introduce children to nature and facilitate connections between them and their environment.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology including document cameras, interactive whiteboards, web-based learning software, and Google apps.
  • ??Excellent communication skills to support working with students, families, faculty/staff, and campus partners.
  • Positive energy and enthusiasm for working in a Preschool through Eighth Grade, faith-based independent school.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional growth, curiosity, cultural humility, and antiracism, as well as an understanding of its critical role in academic excellence and student growth.

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:
Anticipated salary is $4,477/month for the two-month tenure. Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications.
