What you’ll be doing:

In this challenging and fast paced role within NBMLHD, the Industrial/Employee Relations Specialist will provide high level advice and industrial relations services to managers regarding NSW Health and NBMLHD processes, procedures, and practices.

Within this role you will develop mechanisms to provide regular reports and advice to the Employee/Industrial Relations Manager and Director Workforce People and Culture on employee relations issues. Your knowledge and skills will manage and lead relevant projects that support governance and quality improvement and provide support and advice on industrial relations matters including research, liaison with union groups, dispute management, unfair dismissals, other matters before a range of industrial tribunals/bodies and reporting.

At all times you will assist in the development and maintenance of systems of review on conduct, probity, and complaints issues and using these to identify trends in investigative practice, workforce complaints handling, workplace conflict, conduct, and probity.

The role also supports a portfolio of industrial matters under direction of the Employee/Industrial Relations Manager.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.

Selection criteria to be addressed: * Relevant tertiary qualifications in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, Law or other relevant field and/or equivalent professional experience.

  • Demonstrated experience conducting workplace investigations including well developed interviewing, analysis skills, application of legislation, and report writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage a large and varied caseload of complex matters, and to provide accurate and strategic briefings, submissions, and advice within tight timeframes.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills relating to the assessment, review and resolution of complex concerns raised regarding employee conduct within the parameters of relevant legislation, policy and guidelines.
  • Sound knowledge and practical experience of employment law and the state industrial relations system, including industrial relations policies impacting on NSW Health.
  • Demonstrated superior communication skills including negotiation and influencing skills, coaching others, and an ability to prepare detailed and accurate correspondence and briefing notes.
  • High level negotiation and conflict resolution and problem solving skills. Superior time management and organisational skills.
