What You’ll Do
This role is responsible for providing horticulture support before, during, and after the Melbourne Gardens Lightscape event. You will support the day-to-day horticultural activities including maintenance, development, curation, and conservation of living plant collections through the application of horticultural techniques. You will select appropriate plants, identify suitable growing environments, monitor plant performance, and implement pest management controls to achieve the highest standards of presentation. In addition, this role will assist with broader organisational requirements to ensure the success of Lightscape and contribute to landscape recovery such as turf replacement post Lightscape. You will work collaboratively as part of a team, and with staff from other branches and divisions as well as external stakeholders to develop positive and professional relationships for the achievement of organisation priorities.

What You’ll Bring
The successful candidate will hold a Trade Certificate, Advanced Certificate, relevant tertiary qualifications or other equivalent qualification and experience in Horticulture or related field. You will have demonstrated experience working in a large public garden, such as botanic garden, or other relevant experience, and a sound knowledge of horticultural practices, plant identification, and curation. You are well versed in the safe and effective operation of horticultural machinery and equipment, and selection and use of PPE in addition to a demonstrated ability of optimising plant performance, IMP strategies, and accurate records keeping. Your excellent communication skills enable you to work well within a team, providing support and training to the development of apprentices, internship students, volunteers, or other staff, along with the ability to provide clear and professional horticultural advice to a variety of audiences.

Expected salary: $66923 – 73932 per year
