Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services LTD (KAMS) is a well-established regional Aboriginal community controlled health service, founded in 1986, which provides centralised advocacy and resource support for 6 independent member services, as well as providing direct clinical services in a further 6 remote Aboriginal communities across the region.

KAMS has successfully delivered high-quality, accessible comprehensive primary health care services over its 30 years of operation and has provided innovation and national leadership in areas such as health information management and evidence-based best practice in primary health care.

About the Region

The Kimberley region is located in the northern part of Western Australia and covers about 421,000 square kilometres. The Kimberley has only three towns with a population of more than 2,000 (Broome, Derby and Kununurra), and the total population is around 37,000. In addition to the sealed Route 1 which runs along the southern part of the area, the unsealed Gibb River Road runs through the heart of the region from Derby to the highway near Kununurra. Access to much of the region is by dirt road, air or sea.

About the Opportunity

KAMS now has an opportunity for Hearing Health Regional Coordinator to join their friendly, multidisciplinary team in Broome WA, on a full-time fixed term contract basis till 30th August 2022.

In this role, you will be responsible for the coordination of clinical ENT and Audiology specialist services across Kimberley Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services sites to deliver screening and referral pathways to priority communities. You will also be responsible for health promotion and community education throughout the Kimberley region with the ultimate aim of improving health outcomes.

Some of your key responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Liaise with WACHS audiologists/ ENT Specialists to ensure that the Kimberley region has access to regular audiology/ ENT Specialist services;
  • Provide Hearing Health advocacy to KAMS member services and remote clinics to improve health outcomes;
  • Development of Hearing Health education tools and health promotion resources;
  • Coordinate the use of electronic information systems, including capture and interpretation of ear health data, across the region to inform ongoing planning ear health services.

To be successful in this role, you will need to hold qualifications and or experience in a Primary Health Care setting relevant to hearing health or health promotion.

You will also need to have a sound understanding of Aboriginal culture and family groups plus previous experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating health promotion material for us in cross-cultural settings.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work in an autonomous environment whilst being able to achieve agreed duties.

Please note: It is a requirement that successful candidates hold a current Working With Children Check, and be willing to undergo a National Police Check prior to employment with KAMS.

  • 5 weeks leave p.a.
