Job description: Job Title: Health & Safety CoordinatorJob DescriptionWe are seeking a dedicated and disciplined Health & Safety Coordinator to join our team in Michigan. The role involves overseeing safety protocols and ensuring compliance within construction projects in the region, specifically between Lansing and Mount Pleasant. The ideal candidate will be flexible, self-motivated, and able to work independently, as the position requires frequent travel to construction sites.Responsibilities

  • Assist with new hire general safety orientation
  • Coordinate, conduct, and document safety meetings and on-site safety audits
  • Support top management in preparing and implementing safety policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules
  • Work with the Safety Department to meet OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements
  • Monitor activities where accidents could occur and halt operations that constitute imminent hazards
  • Provide safety technical support and education for supervisors and employees
  • Promote proactive and preventive safety activities by observing, analyzing, encouraging safe work behaviors, and correcting unsafe conditions
  • Integrate safety into project plans by establishing safety goals and reinforcing safety policies and procedures
  • Monitor safety compliance and create awareness to focus on continuous safety improvement
  • Collaborate with VP’s, Operations Managers, Project Managers, Superintendents, and Field Safety & Health Coordinators to develop, implement, and monitor annual comprehensive Safety Plans
  • Assist and document Utility Division incident investigations, including detailed RCA, sharing lessons learned, communicating next steps, and tracking action items
  • Monitor safety compliance and focus on continuous safety and DOT improvement
  • Travel occasionally to various construction sites

Essential Skills

  • Working knowledge of 29 CFR OSHA 1926 Construction Industry Regulations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Strong communication, organizational, presentation, and analytical skills
  • Experience dealing with union representatives and union environments
  • Health and safety background and experience in construction-related projects
  • Relevant safety certifications such as BCSP, CUSP, ASP, CHSP

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Outgoing personality to effectively work with a large audience of individuals both internally and externally
  • Interest in outdoor activities such as snowmobiling, four-wheeling, golfing, and hiking

Work EnvironmentAll work is conducted in the field at utility construction sites, primarily at Substation and Transmission sites. The position involves frequent travel within the region and minimal office presence, except for scheduled events at the main office in Oxford or the satellite office in Grand Rapids. Typical work hours start at 7am, with travel to and from construction sites considered billable hours.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $38.46 – $48.07/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
