Primary Purpose of DepartmentThe Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) office promotes environmental, health, and safety compliance within the University of North Carolina at Charlotte campus community. The EHS office provides guidance at all levels of the University to ensure compliance, maintain a safe workplace and to protect the environment.
Primary Purpose of PositionThe primary purpose of this position is to administer and monitor the University’s Fire and Life Safety program to maintain compliance and ensure campus community safety.
Summary of Position ResponsibilitiesThe position will administer and monitor the Emergency Preparedness/Building Evacuation Plans, Fire Prevention, Aerial Lifts Forklift, Contractor Safety, Hot Work, Fall Protection, Electrical, and Event Safety programs. The position will conduct training sessions; inspect facilities; enforce safety regulations; emergency planning; conduct investigations; assessments; and work with faculty, staff, students and other stakeholders to ensure the safety of the campus community.
Minimum Education/ExperienceBachelor’s degree in a physical science, biological science, environmental science/engineering, occupational safety, industrial technology or related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in safety and health, engineering, risk management, other related technical field or business.
- 1-3 years of safety experience.
- 1-3 years experience conducting training sessions.
- 1-3 years experience with Emergency Preparedness/Building Evacuation Plans, Fire Prevention, Aerial Lifts Forklift, Contractor Safety, Hot Work, Fall Protection, Electrical, and Event Safety programs.
- Computer Systems experience such as Microsoft and Google Suite.
Necessary Certifications/Licenses
- Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Certifications/Licenses
- Possess or is actively working towards Professional Certification(s) (GSP, ASP, OHST, CHST, CSP, ARM, CIH, CHMM, etc.)
