Then Serco has a great opportunity for you!As an Experienced Software Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic team supporting the design, development, integration, and testing of software solutions for a Navy Integrated Data Environment (IDE) / Portal. This remote opportunity allows you to bring your expertise and collaborative skills to make an impact on our military defense and the safety of our sailors.Serco supports the US Navy as a prime for their PMS 400D contract supporting the acquisition of AEGIS destroyers. We work alongside the Navy civilian and military team to oversee the construction, testing and delivery of Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) Class Guided Missile Destroyers to the Fleet. We help identify and resolve thousands of technical challenges to continue to update and modernize a ship class that started construction over 35 years ago to include major flight upgrades to the combat system as well as HM&E systems making these ships our Navy’s first line of defense around the world.In this role, you will:
- Design, develop, and maintain software applications using C# and ASP.NET Core (MVC), with a strong focus on clean, testable, and reusable code.
- Work with Entity Framework and SQL databases to optimize performance, write queries, and manage data migrations.
- Implement and maintain front-end components using Telerik UI and Bootstrap.
- Develop reports using Telerik Reporting or similar frameworks (e.g., Aspose, Syncfusion).
- Assist in the migration of business logic from database packages to MVC data models.
- Interface with stakeholders to gather requirements, perform testing, and provide feedback on software performance.
- Support existing applications through debugging, unit testing, and applying web application security best practices.
- Assist with Java and Oracle-based systems as needed, including data migration and code conversion.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance with DOD, DON, and NAVSEA cybersecurity policies (e.g., RMF, CYBERSAFE).
- Participate in software vulnerability assessments and implement necessary mitigations.
- Work within a team to prepare and deliver technical briefings to U.S. Government staff and project sponsors.
QualificationsTo be successful in this role, you will have:
- Ability to obtain and maintain an active or current Secret Clearance.
- US Citizenship.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- An Associate’s Degree and 2 years of additional experience, or a High School Diploma/GED and 4 years of additional experience, may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree.
- 5 years of experience (Experience in software development, with a strong focus on cybersecurity principles highly preferred)
- Proficiency in C#, ASP.NET Core (MVC), and object-oriented design principles.
- Strong SQL skills and experience with Entity Framework.
- Experience with database optimization and performance tuning.
- Familiarity with web application security best practices.
Additional desired experience and skills:
- Active or Current Secret Clearance.
- Experience with Java development.
- Experience with Oracle databases, stored procedures, and packages.
- Experience with Excel APIs such as JXL/Apache POI.
- Experience with Docker and Docker Engine.
- Experience with Telerik Reporting software.
