Together, let’s advance the world of minimally invasive care.Job DescriptionPrimary Function of PositionWe are looking for an energetic and accountable Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to join our team. As an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist at Intuitive, you will be responsible for creating and enforcing a culture of safety within our organization.The EHS Specialist will work closely with the local process owners and business partners to ensure requirements are duly met by the site and, additionally, assessing, documenting, and addressing all relevant changes with impact to environment and safety for our employees and overall operations.Essential Job Duties

  • Ensure adherence to all relevant legal rules and regulations
  • Educate and oversee employees on health and safety procedures and regulations
  • Conduct ergonomic evaluations and job hazard assessments to identify risk
  • Partner with stakeholders, including Manufacturing, Engineering, and R&D to mitigate risk
  • Conduct employee safety trainings
  • Encourage and promote the use of safer work equipment, materials and supplies
  • Track the number of incidents and produce reports
  • Conduct root causes analyses and communicate lessons learned across business units
  • Monitor exposure to certain hazardous chemicals
  • Keep abreast of industry and market trends and best practices
  • Perform safety risk assessments for equipment with cross functional partners

QualificationsRequired Skills and Experience

  • 2-5 years management system experience in EH&S, ideally in the medical device industry or similar industry
  • Influential personality with excellent relational, highly effective written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional administrative and recordkeeping skills
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 and/or other management systems, such as ISO 45001
  • Familiarity with regulations including OSHA, EPA, and DOT
  • Proven knowledge in local, state level, national and international laws and regulations related to protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees
  • Proven track record of providing training assistance to employees
  • Ability to exercise autonomous judgment and discretion within a broadly defined range of policies and practices as well as data-backed problem solving
  • Ability to implement mitigations and corrective actions from risk assessments, incident investigations, or best practice dissemination
  • Demonstrated organizational and planning skills, including action oriented, focused urgency and driving for results
  • Ability to be effective in complex projects with ambiguity and/or rapid change
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and to prioritize and schedule work to meet business needs
  • Good social skills, ability to work with others in team environment; effective interactions in cross department teams
  • Computer literacy (PC, Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint, Outlook), experience with Agile a plus
  • Detail orientated, with emphasis on accuracy and completeness
  • Proficient in English language
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • Must be willing/able to work onsite at least 4 days a week in Durham, NC, Blacksburg, VA, or Chapel Hill, NC facility

Required Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or closely related discipline
  • Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) preferred
