Job description: Job Title: Environmental Health and Safety SpecialistJob DescriptionWe are seeking a dedicated Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to collaborate with our operations team in creating and developing safety programs and policies that ensure a safe and healthful workplace. The ideal candidate will adhere to OSHA guidelines and be committed to preventing serious recognized hazards.Responsibilities
- Conduct machine risk assessments and hazard evaluations, implementing controls to support risk reduction.
- Lead investigations to identify the root causes of incidents, near misses, and injuries, and develop programs to prevent these occurrences.
- Develop and distribute corrective actions, and work to launch safety programs successfully.
- Organize and conduct facility, work area, and equipment safety audits.
- Prepare and administer various safety training programs, maintaining records for training related to forklifts, LOTO, fall protection, fire prevention, building evacuations, CPR and first aid, reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing, and hazardous waste handling.
- Assess employee safety training and certification needs, then identify or develop materials and courses covering those topics.
- Maintain and administer the annual safety budget.
- Compile, analyze, and interpret incident data related to occupational illnesses and accidents, and report findings to business leaders.
- Lead and administer the monthly safety committee meeting, and act as the primary point of contact for outside organizations such as fire departments and other emergency services.
- Develop and maintain environmental health programs consistent with EPA guidelines.
Essential Skills
- Experience with OSHA safety regulations and safety program development.
- Strong knowledge of safety training and safety audit procedures.
- EHS experience in a manufacturing facility.
- Ability to write and update safety programs.
- Proficiency in preparing and administering safety training on various topics (forklifts, fall protection, fire protection, CPR, hazardous waste).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification preferred.
- 3+ years of experience managing EHS programs in a manufacturing environment.
