Job description: English Teacher – Providence Preparatory AcademyPosition OverviewThe Rhetoric Level English Teacher is responsible for instructing students in classical literature, writing, and rhetorical skills within a Christian worldview framework. This position focuses on teaching students in the upper school (typically grades 9-12) to analyze, interpret, and create written and spoken language with wisdom, eloquence, and moral discernment.Key Responsibilities
- Teach classical and contemporary literature from a Christian perspective
- Guide students in developing advanced composition skills, including academic essays, creative writing, and rhetorical exercises
- Instruct students in formal rhetoric, logic, and persuasive communication
- Integrate Christian theology and biblical principles throughout the curriculum
- Lead Socratic discussions that foster critical thinking and moral reasoning
- Design and implement curriculum aligned with classical education principles
- Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work
- Prepare students for college-level writing and literary analysis
- Assign and grade meaningful homework that reinforces classroom learning
- Maintain regular communication with parents regarding student progress
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events
- Mentor students in their spiritual and intellectual formation
- Collaborate with other faculty to ensure integration across disciplines
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Teaching experience at the high school level (classical education experience preferred)
- Strong understanding of classical education philosophy and pedagogy
- Demonstrated knowledge of classical literature and rhetorical tradition
- Commitment to Christian education and biblical worldview integration
- Ability to articulate how faith informs the study of literature and language
- Understanding of adolescent development and learning needs
- Strong classroom management skills

Compensation and HoursCompensation: $24,000Working Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 7:30am-4:30pmAttendance at morning devotions, morning assembly, etc.
