  • 8-week EMT-B certification class, which qualifies the employee to take the New York State Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician Exam.
  • There is no cost for the class; all books, fees and uniforms are paid for by Monroe Ambulance
  • Upon successful completion of the class, all tests and state certification, the employee will be transferred into an EMT position with an increase to the EMT compensation rate

**Note: A one-year employment contract is required upon acceptance into the academy program.RequirementsAn Emergency Medical Technicians-Basic (EMT-B) respond to emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care to the critically ill and injured, and to transport the patient to a medical facility, as well as interfacility transfers. After receiving the call for service, the EMT-B responds to the address or location given, using the most expeditious route, depending on traffic and weather conditions. The EMT-B must observe traffic ordinances and regulations concerning emergency vehicle operation.EMT Academy Student Requirements:

  • Must attend all classes, be on time, Mon-Fri 8am-4pm (excluding major holidays) – 8-week course
  • Must maintain an average of 70% or above throughout the course
  • Must pass NYS EMT-B practical and written exam
  • Must possess a valid NYS driver’s license
  • Must be at least 18 years old
