Job description: Job Overview:We are looking for a passionate and energetic K-5 Physical Education Teacher to join our school community. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to promoting physical activity, healthy lifestyles, and overall well-being in elementary-aged students. This role involves creating and delivering engaging physical education lessons, fostering teamwork, developing motor skills, and encouraging lifelong fitness habits. Additionally, we seek candidates who are experienced in or open to incorporating new technology into their physical education programs to enhance student engagement and learning.Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and implement engaging and developmentally appropriate physical education lessons for students in grades K-5.
- Teach a variety of physical activities that promote physical fitness, motor skills, teamwork, and healthy lifestyle habits, including games, sports, and fitness activities.
- Develop and implement strategies to engage students in physical activity, ensuring that lessons are fun, inclusive, and accessible to all students.
- Incorporate technology into physical education lessons to enhance learning experiences, such as using fitness tracking apps, online fitness platforms, or virtual lessons.
- Assess student performance and progress in physical education, providing feedback and individualized support to help students develop their physical abilities.
- Foster a positive and supportive environment where students feel confident participating in physical activities and are encouraged to try new skills.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and other staff to integrate physical activity and wellness into the overall curriculum, supporting academic learning through physical movement.
- Promote the importance of fitness, health, and wellness, teaching students about the benefits of staying active and living a healthy lifestyle.
- Organize and supervise extracurricular physical activities or sports events, fostering school spirit and teamwork.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress and offer suggestions for supporting physical activity at home.
- Maintain a safe and well-organized learning environment, ensuring that equipment is in good condition and that safety protocols are followed during physical activities.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date on best practices in physical education, fitness, and technology integration.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Valid teaching certification for Physical Education (K-5) in LA.
- Experience teaching physical education at the elementary level (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of physical fitness, motor development, and sports education for elementary-aged students.
- Experience with or openness to incorporating technology into physical education instruction (e.g., fitness trackers, online platforms, apps for tracking progress).
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive and engaging learning environment.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for promoting physical activity and teaching students the value of living a healthy, active life.
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Desired Skills:
- Familiarity with fitness-related apps, tools, and platforms (e.g., MyFitnessPal, fitness trackers, interactive exercise videos).
- Experience using technology to track student progress or create virtual PE lessons (e.g., Google Classroom, Zoom, fitness apps).
- Willingness to explore and integrate new technologies to make physical education more engaging and relevant for students.
Expected salary: $45000 – 50000 per year
