The Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) is an independent government agency which, in partnership with Basin governments, manages the Murray–Darling Basin’s water resources in the national interest. With the enactment of the Water Act 2007, the MDBA was established as an independent expertise-based statutory agency.

The MDBA aims to achieve a healthy working Basin for the benefit of all Australians. The Murray–Darling Basin contains a rich diversity of natural environments that are unique in Australia and the world. The Basin is also crucial to Australia’s economy and home to 2.3 million Australians, including people from over 40 First Nations. The Position
As a Director Talent Acquisition and Development lead, you will lead the MDBA’s strategic initiative, the “MDBA Academy”, to support capability development throughout the agency. This key leadership role involves designing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive and targeted package of learning programs that align with our agency objectives that foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Your key responsibilities in this role are to:

  • Develop and execute a strategic learning and development program (to be known as the MDBA Academy) to address our agency needs and support career progression across all work classifications.
  • Collaborate with a range of stakeholders to identify organisational skills gaps and create targeted talent engagement pathways to identify and develop future employees to sustain long term organisational performance.
  • Lead the design and delivery of engaging and effective learning solutions that enhance individual and organisational performance, incorporating various modalities such as e-learning, in person workshops, coaching and mentoring.
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with external training providers, industry experts and tertiary institutions.
  • Oversee the evaluation of training effectiveness and make data driven recommendations for continuous improvements.
  • Drive a culture of continuous learning by promoting and fostering a positive learning environment.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices and emerging technologies to ensure the agency retains its innovative edge.
  • Growing and leveraging the agency’s entry level employment programs to ensure they provide robust talent pipelines as part of a wider talent and succession management approach.
