The NC Wildlife Resources Commission Mission Statement is to conserve North Carolina’s wildlife resources and their habitats and provide programs and opportunities that allow hunters, anglers, boaters, and other outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy wildlife-associated recreation. The Commission is the regulatory agency responsible for the enforcement of N.C. fishing, hunting, trapping, and boating laws. The NCWRC employs over 680 full-time staff across the state, including wildlife and fisheries biologists and technicians, wildlife law enforcement officers, wildlife educators, communication specialists, customer service, information technology, and administrative professionals.The NC Wildlife Resource Commission’s Information Technology (IT) Division provides administrative support for the agency in the form of information technology services, end user and networking support, and application system development and maintenance. The IT Division plan for and manage application systems and database systems development from analysis through implementation, operation and maintenance, network design, implementation, and maintenance; hardware systems configuration, operation, and maintenance; and technical support to agency staff on how to use the computer systems and hardware. The IT Division is responsible for the accurate and timely design of application systems in keeping with the latest technology compatible with the needs of the Commission, the Commission’s Agency Technical Architecture (ATA), and the North Carolina Statewide Technical Architecture (STA).The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is accepting applications for a Database Administrator I for our Information Technology Division. The primary purpose of this position is in using and writing SQL to create programs, stored procedures, functions, and other relational database objects to maintain integrity and functionality of all WRC related databases.The Database Administrator I:
- supports users inside the agency and out by developing and maintaining queries, reports and applications that facilitate the user’s needs and maintains and enhances Database Data Dictionaries;
- supports license, vessel, and financial maintenance, and responds to database questions from internal and external customers;
- collaborates and interacts with users, business analyst, and project manager to gather user requirements and develops database models and designs databases;
- coordinates with counterparts and engages in meetings to ensure that issues affecting data integrity are considered and practiced;
- participates in testing applications and database modifications to determine that the data is being manipulated accurately and most effectively;
- uses programming languages (SQL and others) to create programs, resolve problems, and tabulate data;
- creates training materials and demonstrations to educate users on good practices to use while interacting and utilizing databases;
- researches how database is being compromised and informs pertinent staff so that problems do not persist. This could include application or database object bugs that programmers must correct or end users that do not have a clear understanding of how to update records through various applications and need extended training;
- collects, analyzes, and prepares technical and non-technical data for reporting and documentation;
- assists with routing of problems reported from end users to programmers via supervisors, triage, and business analysts to ensure that acceptable resolutions are reached within time periods appropriate for severity of problem and will ensure that follow up, including testing and notification of resolution, is conveyed to all interested parties.
A normal Monday-Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm schedule is associated with this position, though some travel, evening meetings, occasional overnight travel and weekend work may be required to meet the requirements of the position. Position will be based out of the Wildlife Resources Commission headquarters building in Raleigh, NC (Wake County).Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / CompetenciesRequired Competencies, Work History, and Credentials must appear in the application to receive consideration during the selection process. - Experience designing and maintaining an integrated database system;
- Experience with applications analysis and programming techniques;
- Knowledge of data and database security techniques;
- Experience using programming language (SQL and others) to create programs, resolve problems and tabulate data;
- Experience analyzing and assessing customers’ needs to develop effective and appropriate solutions.
Management Preferences:
- Knowledge of complex SQL queries;
- Experience with Microsoft & ASP.Net.

Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in programming and applications analysis including the design and maintenance of an integrated database system;
OR
