POSITION SUMMARY:As the Community School Coordinator, you will be assigned full-time to , an alternative middle-high school serving incarcerated youth within the Baltimore City Detention Center. You will serve as a critical link between students, school leadership, detention center staff, service providers, and community partners to ensure that students receive comprehensive educational, social-emotional, and reentry support.In this role, the you will work closely with the principal and school operator to design, plan, coordinate, and implement school-based and school-linked programs and services that address the unique needs of detained youth. You will ensure that all activities align with the mission and goals of Eager Street Academy and the six pillars of community schools (Family Engagement, Health and Social Supports, Community Development, Youth Development, Enhanced Academic and Enrichment, and College and Career Readiness).QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, health, social work, or public policy is strongly preferred.
  • Master’s degree a plus.
  • Three (3) years of successful experience working with public school systems, including development and implementation of youth development programs, community organizing, family engagement, and/or education policy.
  • Experience working with incarcerated students or students in alternative learning environments, as well as their families and communities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, database systems, data analysis, as well as budget development and implementation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordination of Services

  • Facilitate a holistic approach to student success, recognizing the role of all adults—including educators, detention center staff, and community partners—in supporting the academic and personal growth of incarcerated youth.
  • Develop and implement student support services tailored to the unique educational and emotional needs of students in a detention setting.
  • Collaborate with school faculty, staff, correctional facility personnel, and external partners to develop policies, procedures, and interventions that support positive youth development and rehabilitation.
  • Convene regularly scheduled partner meetings to ensure joint planning, maximum service integration, and alignment with reentry planning efforts.
  • Participate in and support school-based teams to address academic progress, behavior, and overall well-being. The teams include:
  • Attendance Team,
  • Student Support Team
  • School Family Council
  • Implement and maintain systems for cross-referral of students and families between service providers, ensuring seamless access to educational, mental health, and reentry resources.
  • Coordinate targeted interventions to address attendance, behavior, and academic achievement in partnership with school leadership and detention center staff.
  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to promote student and family engagement in programs and services, while being mindful of security protocols and facility restrictions.

Communication and Documentation

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of student support services, ensuring compliance with school, agency, and detention center policies.
  • Complete all required paperwork in a timely manner, including grant reports, program evaluations, and service delivery logs.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to school leadership, Elev8 Baltimore, and other key stakeholders regarding program effectiveness and student outcomes.

Agency/Team Cohesion

  • Facilitate and attend required departmental and agency meetings.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development related to education in correctional settings, trauma-informed care, and reentry planning.
  • Ensure alignment with Elev8 Baltimore’s mission and broader Baltimore City Public Schools goals.
  • Participate in school and community events that support student success and reentry efforts.

Other Duties as Assigned

Expected salary: $64000 per year
