Job description: Primary Purpose:
Help special education teacher provide for physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in special education setting and job setting. Assist in implementation of classroom/employment programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instructional/employment programs. Work under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified special education teacher. Provide transportation to and from worksites.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Minimum of 48 college credit hours or passing a Paraprofessional Assessment of
Competencies Test
Valid Texas Educational Aide certificate from the State Board for Educator
Certification will be recommended by the district upon hire
Commerical Driver License Required
Special Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to work with children with disabilities
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to communicate effectively
Knowledge of general office equipment
Basic first aid knowledge and CPR
Minimum Experience
Prior experience working with children

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Moderate walking, standing, heavy lifting and carrying of students up to 53 pounds; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Responsibilities require contact with individuals that may include exposure to disruptive behavior. exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt
