Job description: About the role
In this role, you will provide support, guidance and leadership to the permits related staff, including performance management and training.

Work type: Temporary full time
Classification: Band 7 ($100,064 – $110,990 pa plus super)

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the management of the end-to-end building application and permit processes, determining compliance with relevant legislation. This includes issuing of building permits (as required) and managing the day-to-day functions and activities of the permits team.
  • Manage the mandatory inspection program and field investigations to assist clients and ensure fair and proper compliance with relevant legislation and policy.
  • Prepare reports, submissions and provide expert and professional assessment and advice on all matters and issues as delegated by the Municipal Building Surveyor.
  • Represent Council in public forums, legal proceedings and appeal hearings as required.
  • Undertake statutory duties as requested by the Municipal Building Surveyor.
  • Assist with the development and promotion of a business focus to the sourcing and delivery of services.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a current registration in the category of Building Surveyor issued by the Victorian Building Authority. (Note: applicants that hold qualifications which would provide eligibility to obtain registration may be given consideration in certain circumstances and are encouraged to apply).

Essential:

  • Proficient working knowledge, and the ability to interpret relevant legislation.
  • Exceptional conceptual, analytical, investigative, interpretative and problem-solving skills.
  • Confident and collaborative communication style with the ability to produce positive outcomes with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Positive, proactive and professional attitude with a flexible approach.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Current Victorian Driver’s License
