Job description: The Assistant Director of Access Services is responsible for Access Service operations for the Downtown, Evansdale and Health Sciences libraries, including circulation, customer service, reserves, stacks management /maintenance, printing services, and study room reservations. Provides supervision to all Access Services staff in these libraries, while showing support and mentorship. Works with the Director of Access Services to ensure excellent front-line customer service at all libraries. Assumes responsibility for the department/libraries in the absence of the Director. Serves as building supervisor for the Evansdale Library.Major Responsibilities
- In conjunction with the Director of Access Services, oversees services and operations of Access Services at the Downtown, Evansdale and Health Sciences Libraries, including circulation, customer service, reserves, stack maintenance, and printing services.
- Provides direct supervision, mentorship, and support to departmental employees, empowering them to excel in their roles.
- Evaluates employees regularly both formally and informally.
- Leads the Access Services training program for library student employees, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment across libraries with organizational goals, policies, and best practices, while fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
- Creates a cohesive team approach to excellent service delivery and operations across all campus libraries while nurturing a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- In consultation with the Access Services Desk Coordinators, coordinates goals for each location, ensuring excellent customer service and positive user experiences.
- Promotes and ensures an inclusive, welcoming, and safe library space for all users by implementing user-centered services, policies and procedures.
- Regularly communicates with the Downtown, Evansdale and Health Sciences Access Services staff regarding policy updates and issues affecting Access Services.
- Serves as Building Supervisor for the Evansdale Library; maintains library spaces and functional areas in collaboration with the Office of the Dean and WVU Facilities
- Works collaboratively with library space tenants to ensure comfort and space needs are met.
- Assists with long-range planning and implementation of strategic goals for the Access Services unit.
- In collaboration with the Director of Access Services, reviews, develops, and/or revises Access Services operations, policies and/or procedures based on learned experiences and input from users.
- Assists in the development and promotion of user-centric library services and online finding tools specific to Access Services spaces and print and electronic resources.
- Assumes responsibility for the department/libraries in the absence of the Director.

- We anticipate hiring at the Assistant or Associate University Librarian rank with a salary range of $67,800-$73,800. Rank is determined by years served in a professional librarian capacity.
- Exemplary job performance, professional development and/or research, and service are required for reappointment and promotion in rank.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program.
- Experience in access services or resource sharing in a library.
- Successful administrative library experience in an academic library with evidence of progressively more responsible experience.
- Demonstrated collaborative and team-building skills.
- Strong service orientation, analytical ability, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
