Job description: Responsibilities:Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking an Assistant Controller for our Headquarters location in Torrance, CA. HFS is a reporting segment of Howmet Aerospace, a leading global provider of advanced engineered solutions for the aerospace and transportation industries.Essential Functions:The Assistant Controller is responsible for the day-to-day general accounting functions, month-end closing process and monthly financial reporting. Assists in the development of financial plans and forecasts, and the analysis of HQ departmental spend. Responsible for SOX compliance and monthly testing of internal controls.Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Delivering an 8-hour workday, one monthly accounting close and coordination with the accounting team (shared services)
- General accounting, fixed asset accounting, inter-company accounting and expense analysis for our Headquarters location in Torrance, CA
- Preparing journal entries and reconciling monthly ledger accounts
- Performing a monthly testing of internal controls including SOX controls using Audit and self-assessed tools (ASAT) to ensure compliance with corporate standards and document observations using an online portal called Audit and Self-assessment portal (ASP)
- Financial, internal, and governmental audits to maintain compliance
- Assisting in monthly and annual forecasting/ budgeting including collaborating with HQ department heads in the setting/ updating of the financial targets
- Reviewing capital expenditure requests for our Headquarters location. Exercising accounting control to ensure that budgeted expenditures do not exceed amounts authorized and projects are capitalized/ updated timely.
- Managing and responding to various ad hoc Corporate Headquarters and Tax requests as required
- Work with other locations as required
Qualifications:Experience and Background:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution, preferred in Finance or Business discipline
- Minimum of 7 years directly related work experience
- Ability to use Microsoft programs with intermediate proficiency (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint); advanced Excel preferred.
- Analytically oriented and able to effectively problem solve independently.
- Proven discipline of reporting timeliness and accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Accounting license/certification preferred (but not required)
- Oracle/ Essbase experience
- Some supervisory experience
