Provides input for budgets. Assists in emergency medical and rescue training, public education and other related educational and functional duties. Assists in the training of lifeguards and recreational swimming classes.Protects patrons from hazardous conditions by ensuring rules and regulations are enforced. Protects lives through aggressive prevention, preparedness, education, emergency medical, and rescue programs. Ensures all applicable rules and regulations pertaining to swimming pools observed. Performs water and land rescues equal to the standard of training when an emergency is taking place (e.g. drowning, medical or trauma in the water). Manages respiratory and cardiac emergencies to include performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bag-valve-mask resuscitation, or automatic external defibrillation (AED). Uses and maintains care of emergency equipment such as specialized kits and rescue bags, backboards, suction devices, splints, stretchers, oxygen delivery systems, and monitoring equipment. Controls external bleeding with direct pressure and treats shock. Splints and immobilizes fractures and dislocations for transport. Attempts to ascertain whether the patron has preexisting medical problems and to obtain critical medical history information from the patron.Responsible for the supervision and safety of the aquatics staff. Aids employees with suggestions, complaints, and other personnel matters. Informs subordinates of new methods of accomplishing assignments. Conducts screening of prospective staff. Supervises grades NF-01 through NF-03 (and equivalent) staff to include assigning and distributing work, coaching, counseling, training and mentoring employees; approving and disapproving leave; recommending and completing personnel actions; completing performance reviews. Must be alert to alcohol abuse and substance and take appropriate action. Assists in ensuring all personnel are properly trained and maintain appropriate professional certifications.Operates Rec Trac, monitors cashiers. Ensures cashiers are properly trained in the use of Rec Trac and proper cash handling procedures. Ensures funds are collected. Ensures receipts are verified and that the deposits are made daily. Ensures receipts are in order and change fund is secured daily.When needed, teaches various swimming skills and water safety for all age groups. Prepares material for classes being taught. Ensures the safety of all patrons in the class.Promptly reports safety hazards to supervisor. Completes incident reports and assists in maintaining routine documents and reports. Ensures proper disposal of medical waste and potentially infectious materials. Ensures that all maintenance work, water chemical testing, pool vacuuming, filtration, and equipment are within the scope required by environmental health standards. Ensures programs and operations are conducted within all prescribed health and safety and sanitation guidelines. Ensures the use of required safety equipment and safe work procedures. Takes appropriate steps to solve problems quickly and alerts senior leaders of situations. Understands the roles of the lifeguards during a coordinated rescue scene for the safety of the rescuers and the victim.Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a professional and friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.Performs other duties as assigned. Due to the seasonal nature of the MCCS-SC Aquatics Program, this position will perform other duties during the pool off-season (typically between Labor Day and Memorial Day). Other assigned duties may fall under Outdoor Recreation, Athletics and/other areas of the Semper Fit Division as needed.Must obtain Instructor Trainer certification within 120 days of hire.This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance is required, while performing normal duties in the area. May perform work that poses physical demands beyond normal requirements during rescue. Work may be performed in settings where exposure to moderate discomforts, high temperatures, and/or adverse weather conditions exist.RequirementsConditions of Employment

EVALUATIONS:QualificationsBachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, OR an appropriate combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge and skill equivalent to that gained in the above; OR two years of practical experience that demonstrates that the applicant has acquired the knowledge of aquatics management, skills, and abilities equivalent to that gained in the above. A minimum of one year of supervisory experience. Must be able to pass an initial and recurrent physical ability test.Must be able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries and State Criminal History Repository Check (CNACI) background checks which are required for positions that involve working with children under 18 years of age.Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to use and perform maintenance of pool equipment. Understanding of and the ability to enforce rigid safety regulations to ensure maximum protection of swimmers. Must have the ability to use equipment to take pool readings. Must be able to pass an initial and recurring physical ability test. Must have a current driver’s license.Training and Certification Required:· Current nationally recognized certification: Lifeguard training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent, Standard First Aid or equivalent.· Current nationally recognized certification as a Water Safety Instructor or equivalent.
