About the role
Research & Ideas is the amalgamation of two distinct teams, Risk Research, and Innovation Ideas, tasked with overseeing critical aspects of the department’s biosecurity and innovation effort.
Duties
- Contributing to the effective management of the Centre for Excellence of Biosecurity Risk Analysis (CEBRA) grant program.
- Helping to guide and influence the department’s investment and implementation of biosecurity research projects to strengthen the national biosecurity system.
- Contributing to the provision and maintenance of biosecurity innovation communications material including an innovation newsletter, webinars, and external publications.
- Providing a range of project management and contracting support services, including preparation of procurement advice to ensure project outcomes are achieved to a high standard.
- Supporting the preparation and maintenance of project documentation for reporting, monitoring, and evaluation purposes.
- Brainstorming with the team on ways to improve and innovate existing processes and procedures.
- Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with colleagues Australia-wide.
Desired experience
- Project management, communications and Grant/Program management skills are highly desirable.
- Experience in preparation and administering procurement contracts.
- Experience in preparing high quality written communication including correspondence, agenda papers, briefs, discussion papers, meeting minutes and reports and communication material.
- Understanding the concept of workplace diversity and its contribution to effective organisational performance.
- Experience with stakeholder engagement, including liaising with internal departmental staff, industry, research organisations and universities.
- Interest/experience in the fields of biosecurity and/or science would be an advantage.
Skills and Capabilities
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to understand the audience and synthesise and present complex information in a variety of mediums.
- High level project management skills, including the ability to think strategically, and identify and proactively implement effective solutions.
- Highly developed analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation/communication skills.
- Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail, self-drive and initiative.
- Flexibility, resilience and be adaptable in managing competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Experience building and maintaining effective working relationships with a range of government and non-government stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team to deliver a diverse range of tasks.

- Applicants must hold Australian citizenship and an active Baseline Clearance or having the ability to obtain.
